I'm looking to spend up to $20Kish for a Quattro model to mainly use as my all-weather and mountain trip vehicle. My DD is an F80 ('16 M3) and my wife drives an E60 M5; which I state only for frame of reference. My only Audi was a B6 S4 several years ago, which I loved. So far I'm leaning towards the following (in this order):

    Older V8 S5
    B7/B8 S4
    B7 RS4
Newer TT (I worry this lacks power)
    B8 A4 (I worry this lacks power)

Any input on the above? Other options I should consider? I'd like it to be able to hold a snowboard or two, or mountaineering gear; for example. And would rotate between summer and winter performance tires. Taking it occasionally to the track would be a nice bonus.

    Thanks!

The TT certainly wont lack performance over an V8 S5. The B7 RS4 is a great car for all weather all year fun but if its for mountain driving you may be better picking something with a turbo or supercharger.

    You think a non-S TT is comparable performance-wise to the V8 S5?

Why not considering an Allroad? If you need more power, chip it.

Valid point. How quick can those get chipped? Same for a regular A4?

stock to stock, no way. a tuned 2.0 TT is pretty fun to drive and can be very comparable to the v8 s5, might feel a bit faster even.

if you want to stay stock, out of your choices, id go with the rs4.

I love the older v8 s5's in terms of looks but the power will be severely lacking coming from the m3 and m5

SQ5 IMO :) Not super easy to find, but I think a B8 A4 Avant would be a great fit. Also reliable, good fuel economy, good utility.

I second on the TT being a more fun/peppy overall car. I really don't think a V8 is a great choice no matter. But I do know of a really clean/low mileage B7 S4 Avant for sale.

Thanks for the responses so far. By no means would I stay stock; my Ms have loads of upgrades. On that note, a base TT or A4 can be tuned to get decent power? The stock specs aren't impressive, but I don't know much about juicing up those models.

    with money, anything is possible

there is a k03/stage 3 turbocharger for the a4/5 that puts you around 350hp, and a future EFR promises around 400 ( for 8.5 models )
stage 2 bumps your 2.0 turbo from 211 hp to around 275 I believe.
    stock v8 s5 is around 350

newer b8.5 models pumps more than the b8 models
