Has anyone ever swapped in a Golf R Manual?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just curious, I did a search and really couldn't find the answer, maybe I wrote it wrong, but I'm wondering if anyone swapped out the DSG for the Golf R's Manual, considering they're on the same platform and probably use similar Haldex systems

Gonna be copying and sharing this on the Mk3 TT forum, see what they say, but earlier I was with my friend and we saw both a TTS and a S3 in the show room and to me, seeing gems like these with no manuals is like an otherwise pretty girl but completely flat :(

If it can be done, how difficult is it, and what would the costs be, since down the line, if I get either, I'll attempt this regardless.

Thanks for looking and have a great evening,

    Rogue

APR made some sort of clutch mechanism that "simulates" a manual. Subbed for curiosity

    Do they?

Still, prefer a real stick and I've gotten past the simpler stages of modding here between my two cars (A4 in Sig and nearly full bolt on EcoStang), so eventually I'll do something grandiose

Anyways, I doubt anyone has done it. In my opinion it's a waste of money. If you want manual get an R and pocket the difference or find a different sedan you like as well as the S3 that comes in a manual.

Now, I'm assuming it can be done, but I'm wondering the costs

You need the Trans and components from a Euro model, then you gotta ship it to the shop and then while I don't know the specifics, the labor between installing the parts and then changing the ECU or whatever, guessing it's High $,$$$-Low $$,$$$, but if it all works out, gotta unique and sick car

    Whaddya think

Sounds like a big headache and a large cost to have a slower car.

As for manual, I wouldn't be surprised when warranties start expiring or someone gets a salvage title does something like this. The cost involved is too ridiculous right now

Getting it to actually work *correctly* would be an absolute nightmare given all the electronics within these cars.

    Damn...

Wonder how insane it'd be to consider importing a Euro S3?

You wouldn't be able to. Even if you had the connections to make it happen, you would need to spend hundreds of thousands of dollars to make it DOT and EPA compliant.
