    Dipstick Tube O-Ring

    Hi all,
Long story short I recently picked up this b7 s4 avant which had a brand new long block installed on audi's dime. Now a good sized oil leak developed out of nowhere and there's a decent sized oil puddle that appeared in my parkade. Shop says it's oil tube dipstick and figured o-ring so I had one ordered. I figured quick easy swap but just talked to them and they say they had to remove the front end. (Hopefully just service position, lol.) Seems like overkill to me, anyone have experience with this job? Anyone know what the book time is for this job? Just want to make sure I'm not getting hosed.

I've replaced my dipstick tube because mine was strangely bent (probably by the shop that did the timing work before I bought the car), but I had the front end off to do the AC at the time. It's really crammed in there surrounded by some coolant hard lines and it curves around the AC compressor. It is not easy to get to and has to be rotated around to extract it. I don't think you're being hosed, but it might be possible to weasel it out of there without disassembling the front end.

Same here as well, I had to take mine out while working on the AC. The square up at the top shows you where it attaches to the engine. The oval shows you where the dipstick plugs in and like 924Carrera said, it's behind coolant hard lines and the water pump. You have to pull and rotate it to get it around the body of the compressor before it can come out. You may be able to weasel it out without taking off the front end but you're going to have some fun putting it back in without actually being able to see it.
