I bought a new 17 S5. Is it a B9 or a B8.5

yeah I know. I just couldn't find anything definitive on the diff. I know that there is supposed to be a 17 S5 that's turbo charged coming out according to the dealer so i was wondering if that had anything to do with it.

I am fairly certain you have a B8.5 coming. The B9 S5 will be released as a 2018 model sometime in June.

I didn't order it. I bought it off the lot. They just happened to have a car with everything I wanted in it. I was a Bimmer guy before the Audi. I always liked the S5, since it was comparable to the 335i e92 that I had, and wanted to check them out. Found one with all the stuff that I wanted in it and bought it. It was the last one they had. If this was a Bimmer I would know what model I had, but seeing as it's my first Audi I'm trying to learn. meh thanks for the help.

Dun worry, when I first join the audi bandwagon I was confused by the code name too. And I also come from E92 335i too but I made a big mistake of keeping the bimmer instead of trade it in! Now my beautiful montego blue E92 become my furniture! absolutely has no craving to drive it anymore when my S5 sit beside it.

nice, I wish I wouldn't have gotten rid of it but it was starting to cost me too much money. I had an 07 and was tired of replacing things twice, plus turbo waste gate was bad so they were on their way out.

Congrats on your new S5! Very nice color choice. One of the reasons why I didn't go for a BMW 435ix is because I am worried about its reliability based on the E92 335i's history. So far, my research on the reliability of our S5's and S4's are quite good. The 3.0L V6 Engine and S-Tronic tranny are rock solid. No carbon build-up issues like the older naturally aspirated V6 and V8 engines. Electricals and Electronics are OK, too. There's some isolated issues reported here and in other Audi forums but nothing that counts as widespread failure of some part.

No need to cross reference anything. Supercharged engines belong to the B8 and B8.5. Turbocharged engines belong to the B9.

Congrats bro! Yeah all the info on 2017's online are basically the new body style, which in the U.S. is actually going to be a 2018. According to my dealer 2017 S5's were literally made for maybe 2 months, you can't order them anymore as they are switching over to the new body style now. I just picked up my own 2017 that is like your twin but with the 20 inch black wheels. I got one of the last 6 manual transmission 2017 S5's in the entire U.S. Couldn't be happier!

Your car looks great. I was thinking about dipping my wheels but wouldn't know how the black would look. I have 20% on the windows and the black trim. Just ordered the side "supercharged" badges in black along with the front rings in black.

Wish I had a manual cause the computer controlling the shifts is killing me even in "manual" mode.

My brother is trying this new product that is similar this weekend but it's vinyl and provides a better shine. The beauty of it is you can try it and if you don't like it after a few weeks just rip it off. I think I'm also gonna order black badges as well as maybe an RS5 grill.
