Hi there,
I currently own a 2011 Audi A3 S-Line TDI 2.0. I have had it a little over a year. A few months ago, I noticed the glow plug light would blink off and on. It did that a few times over a couple of weeks, but it eventually subsided and hadn't shown its little self again...for a while anyways.
On Friday, October 14, 2016, I changed by battery because it started getting cold and my CCA's were depleted on my old battery. No worries right? Well, immediately after changing, I now have a constant flashing glow plug light, a check engine light, and also a Diesel Particulate Filter light.
I have some glow plugs on order no problem, I'll update after I change those. The check engine light was read through my buddies VAGCode reader. The code that popped up was throttle body actuator bank 1 (j338) p0638. We took out the throttle body and cleaned it up real nice with carb cleaner. It was extremely dirty, we thought for sure it'd be fixed. We started her up and that code stayed. We cleared it just in case, but it came back on. Cleared it again, turned off the car, and turned it back on (but didn't start), light came back on without even starting the engine. So....I have read a few different forum posts suggesting cleaning the mechanics that move the butterfly with wd40. As an aircraft mechanic, we're always taught not to mess with the butterflies, but who in here has had this problem and did this work?
Lastly, for the Diesel Particulate light. I followed the recommendations in the owners manual to clean the filter or burn it out by driving for at least 15 minutes in "S" in 4th or 5th gear keeping the car at or slightly above 2000 RPM. This didn't do the trick. I have been looking into cleaners. Does anyone have any recommendations to try to alleviate this nonsense? Seems like if it isn't one thing it is another!
Any help or recommendations is appreciated!
Thanks,
Ryan
