    Anyone else having issues with their EPL TCU tune?

    2013 B8.5 stage 1 tune with TCU tune.

    Noticed that sometimes the car short shifts into gear when WOT at the track.

    example #1 shifts at approx 6500 rpm every time.

    Oh its in the epl discussion thread. I thought u meant it had its own thread lol. I've read both of those but not every page, must have missed it.

    I'm not too pleased at the fact this has been going on since June and no updates or fixes, I will take this up with EPL directly.

    The only time my APR will short-shift is when I am in Manual Mode and miss the shift from 1>2. If that happens it shifts from 2>3 at like 4000rpm. Stupid low.

    I currently have my car set to shift at redline vs bounce and believe that is why.

    Otherwise, it shifts 1>2 at 6,800 which is normal and the rest at 7,200 normal. I don't normally use manual from a stop so it's not a big deal to me but still something I would like to see addressed. I don't see the bogging issue on my car as others have either. My car was flashed to Stage 2 in August-Sept of 2015 so I'm not sure which Rev of v3.1xx exactly it is.

    I have been emailing EPL about it since April....They say a fix is coming. At first they did seem to try to fix it and sent me a few beta files, however the last few months they have not been vocal about any coming changes.

    I spoke with them about it briefly once over the phone and they didn't really act like they cared honestly. I'm happy with my tune etc but I will be speaking with them about this either thru PM or phone.

    I don't think the problem is that he don't care, but tony is a one-man show and he does more tuning than just the 3.0T engine and even that, you have the issues of Ethanol vs gas, stg 2 and dual pulley revision, tcu tune shitload of different tranny box.. so it's a lot of things for one person to tackle. And I'm sure he will be asked to come out with a tune to match the new APR's throttle body which could take a lot of ressources too..

    Like I said before, I glad other peoples complaint because every revision, IMO, have been an improvement.
    S4 B8.5 no track, just enjoying spirited driving.

    . And look at APR's issues with their "bogging" issues. Reported almost a year ago and they are STILL working on it. And that is a massive complaint with waaaay more hands working on stuff. Takes a lot of time to get all these box codes completed. I assure you, Tony is working on it.

    Justifying the problem with APR's poor business practices? At the end of the day not my problem.... None of these issues were disclosed at purchase and the TCU and/or ECU does not operate correctly. Short shifting and very odd shifts when using Launch Control.

    We are not talking about an open source tune which is free, we are talking an off the shelf tune that these tuners have profited nicely from. In the BMW world, better tunes cost $100......

    I'm a no BS kind of guy, which makes me unpopular sometimes, but I highly agree man. It wasn't disclosed and I paid for a tcu tune that's not delivering 100%. From my research...this has been going on since June at least. No resolution yet?

    I'll wait it out and give the vendor the opportunity to fix the issue. How long you ask? Not sure but I'll play it by ear.

    I am not trying to bash Tony, however it is definitely frustrating. I feel like he will eventually fix it, I just wish it was sooner than later.

    Yep. I get that it's not every car so it might be tough to duplicate/understand/correct, but this has been going on for a long time and it's the only outstanding issue I have. It's also one that matters a good deal if you hit the track.

    And how many people out of all the TCU tunes sold have this issue?? Is it certain years/trani codes? I know my TCU tune (2010) works perfectly. Only thing I want is more aggression all around on the shift points and 4K launch. As far as the short shifting, I don't think the tune has anything to do with that. If you loose traction or wheel hop on launch, the car short shifts. Happens if with or without the TCU tune on my car. I'm not being a smart ass here. Just wondering how many people this affects...

At this point more or less all tuners are trying to patch issues in a control system that we have no documentation/support on. Bear in mind we are not talking about tuning at all..... which is why there are reports of similar issues from many different tuners files. That being said, if you are honest with yourself the s-tronic dl501 ecu wasn't "perfect" off the show room floor.... which why many of the ecu's are on revision 7+ from the factory.

    Good to know, but I want to make sure that you know I wasn't bashing you or EPL with that post. In fact, I wrote it as such to basically show the original person complaining that here you were just a couple months after the last release you put out and APR's been dragging their asses for a year. That's where I was going with that. Basically, you're faster than they are. See... I do like you. ;)
