2013 Audi S7 C7. Crackle pop on upshift?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I was told the c7 does not pop on upshift but the c7.5 does. Can anyone confirm this? Is there anything that can be done via tune, turbo upgrade, etc to achieve this pop on upshift? Is it just a quiet trans and nothing can be done?

    Thank you

General this is tuned in the ECU to spray a tiny bit of fuel to ignite and create the pop when the fuel hits the hot exhaust. So it's not just the exhaust, but the engine tuning as well to achieve this.
Jaguar took it to extremes with the F type, but I like it if even some others think it's over the top. I get a bit with my S6, though not as much as my buddy's Boxter, and not nearly as much as the F Type.

So is this something I can ask apr to do in a tune? How is it done?

I have confirmed from another person the newest s6/s7 pops between shifts like the rs7. Are there physical differences with the trans/motor that could affect that? or a simple addition in the tune?

I am having unitronic looking into see if they can add it to their tune, it's in the fueling for the most part. The bmw guys call it over run

Yes it may be something that an APR tune or something similar would allow.

I recently updated my 'JD engineering' stage 2 tune to achieve this on my 2013 S6 C7.
It took the shop 2 attempts to get some more pops and bangs, but finally it sounds (a bit more) alive :).
Not so much of a burble or pop on the upshifts but definatly on the downshifts and letting go of the throttle :).

    *fuel economy increased but :)
Milltek non-res valved exhaust (open valves)...might do a proper movie with launch controle...and a decent downshift movie.

Keep me posted on the popping between up shifts. Downshift pops either way.

Got off the phone with Apr. It's not something they offer as it doesn't "add performance". It's considered a custom tune, something they don't do.

Why would the facelift models make the backfire between shifts and the pre facelift don't? I thought all the hardware was the same.

Don't quote me (and yes i only did it for the fun of it)...but i tought or asked to give the car a bit anti-lag and afaik that helps keep the turbo spooled between shifts, right?
Not sure if it is infact anti-lag audi added in the C7.5 over C7...or if it is just for additional sound factor.
Fact is, my car pulls harder imho after the new tune, no dyna values to back that up tough...
My tune shop asked 400€ for the fix, just in case :).

I think it must run richer on the later cars. dasquerades has had his tuner map his car to do this specifically for that rally overrun sound. MTM actually sell a box for this for £500. Can't be that difficult to do. Since I had my car tuned I noticed it's more pronounced. I even tried putting 99octane in and running on a lower fuel map. Not sure if it made a difference. Does it more when it's cold out that's for sure.

Sorry mine does it on downshift not sure about up. Definitely when I let off the throttle and it overruns. I only drive it in dynamic now

The up shifts on the S6 are too fast to do any crackles, which I prefer. They have to slow the gear change to do the crackles. That's why the RS7 is quicker in AMAX mode, because they turn off the crackles and speed up the gear change.

Hmm you could be right on that. Even with the 'rich' tune i'm running, no crackles here too (glad only on downshifts in combination with going of the gas it bangs).
Here it only 'farts/burbles' on the up shifts :).
Going to try to make some more 'in car' movies soon...
I noticed several (at least one :p) also recently promoted the burble/bangs upgrade for the S6/RS6 here.
Fact is, they first did a 'smaller richer' injection tune (i think) wish made it burble a bit on downshifts going down to 6-5-4-3, where as before i only had some burble going from 3 to 2.
Second tune they added more wish introduced the bangs. Very happy with the result, maybe bit overkill but it only comes to life in S/M mode in the 3.000rpm range and up. So D mode only get the mild burble.
