Key fob stopped working for a while....

My key fob of a 15 S5 (7k miles...)stopped working. The red LED was still flashing. So, I opened the car with the key and started the car putting the key fob into the hole. Also, clicking the open/close buttons before ac couple of times. After driving for an hour and testing the key fob at home it worked again.

    What could be going on?
How long is a battery supposed to last? Googling about the issue I came across references that the dash would indicate low battery. If this is the case there was/is no indication of low bat from the key fob.

I started having flaky/intermittent/weird behavior out of mine (MY: 2013) not too long ago. Nothing indicated in the MMI, I replaced the batteries on a hunch, and it returned to normal. So, somewhere between 2-3 years for me.

Could it be possible that other RF in a city environment could affect the Audi keyfob performance?

THIS!! There are three places my key fob just never works. All are close to a 800 MHZ police and fire communications radio tower. I think this is the culprit because everywhere else it works fine.

When ever I pass near a specific telecom Central Office I get an error that my key is not detected, and my battery is draining. After just a minute or two the error goes away. This particular CO uses a lot of RF technologies, so I just assumed the issue is with frequencies, and not my actual key fob.

This might be it. I parked on the 9th floor in a Chicago garage. Somewhat shielded in the inside. Was able to close the car with no issue and did not see any error. Opening later was an issue.
In any case somewhat, disappointing for a $60k car when other cars opened next to it...

I have the same issue in certain locations in my parking garage at work. I'm convinced it's some kind of radio interference.

60k or not, radio interference is radio interference. Contrary to popular belief, the amount of data that can travel through the air on waves is not unlimited. If you live in a condo, townhome, apartment or any other living situation with a lot of neighbors, it's really easy to see how this plays out with all of them running their own WiFi. Colliding signals cause channel flooding and major packet loss. Any RF device is no different. Those other cars that opened up fine near you likely have issues in other areas where the band for their remote is overly used. I actually have a lot less problems with the fob on my Audi than I have with any of my other cars I've ever owned, excluding the Tacoma. Though, that may not be a fair comparison since my fob is aftermarket on the Taco.
