8 speed Auto Transmission fluid check

Looking for advice on how to check the level of fluid in my 8 speed tiptronic transmission.

    Back story:
I recently removed my engine and had to remove the torque converter with it. In the process of doing that we lost most of the fluid that sits in the torque converter.

The only way is to have it at temp, jack and level the car, remove fill plug and fill to spill. If adding large amounts of fluid reinstall plug and bring back to temp and remove fill plug and let the excess drain out. There is a degree range that it should be done at but I don't have that in front of me.
