I assume you also have the dual cluster warnings for the Airbag system and the emergency brake system since the issue appears to be based on a power supply issue for both of those system's control modules?

I got little to no help from a couple of dealerships I posed this same query to.
One would think a safety issue like this where there's no assurance the airbags will deploy when needed would be a major priority for Audi.
Although this recall notice was promulgated this past spring, I wonder if there's a pre-determined time frame before they action it?

I posted this thread a while back when I first got my letter

    http://www.audizine.com/forum/showth...ghlight=recall

I had to have the module replaced because it failed, as described in the recall. Unfortunately the recall is so new that I had to pay out of pocket. Even though I had the letter from Audiusa my dealer refused to acknowledge the recall and I got hit with the repair bill to get my car out of the shop. AOA got involved and now I am waiting to get the "remedy is ready" letter so that I can submit for reimbursement.

On a related note, the side assist is associated with the airbag control module. When the module failed my side assist malfunctioned. I had originally brought my car in to have the side assist, airbag warning light, and parking brake malfunction light checked out. Funny enough i received my recall letter while the car was actually at the dealer undergoing diagnosis. After replacing both my side assist rear radar modules which did nothing to remedy the issue, they came to the conclusion that the side assist works off of the airbag control module. Replacing the airbag control module cured my side assist issue.

If you have to pay, have them replace the airbag control module first. Don't be like me and get hit with two unnecessary modules, the problem module, and labor.

Thanks for that. I'll give that a read shortly.

Your speaking of the airbag module, correct?

Unfortunately the recall is so new that I had to pay out of pocket.
I'm afraid of the same thing. I just had the airbag module replaced in my 2000 A4 with a used one for about $250 since a new oem one was listed near $900. I just can't afford that sort of thing when there's zero guarantee it will solve all issues.

Even though I had the letter from Audiusa my dealer refused to acknowledge the recall and I got hit with the repair bill to get my car out of the shop.
I don't have such a letter. Although my A5 is US spec (from Miami) and I live in Canada, I don't know if Audi USA could/would send me a recall letter.

    AOA?

I don't have Side Assist but it does sound that it's fed/supported by the same power supply module that feeds the Airbag and Parking Brake systems. Which I believe is the focus of all of these problems and not the individual systems modules?

Replacing the airbag control module cured my side assist issue.
Did it also cure the Airbag and Parking Brake System fault as well?

If you have to pay, have them replace the airbag control module first. Don't be like me and get hit with two unnecessary modules, the problem module, and labor.
I'm thinking there may be nothing wrong with either the Airbag or parking Brake modules, but rather the power supply module that feeds both.
As a side note, a few months ago during normal city driving, my cluster warning lights for the Airbag and Parking Brake systems went away for the remainder of that drive. But came back again the next time the car was used. This further indicates in my opinion that the main area of focus should be the power supply module for those systems.

The airbag/parking failure lights are common for a few different reasons. Some people have reported it being a faulty maf, maf wiring harness, seat wiring harness, airbag control module wiring harness, faulty airbag control module, and faulty parking brake button.

If you have the airbag/parking brake light you need to check for codes. If you get a code for intermittent/no communication with the airbag control module, then it's likely to be either the wiring harness is loose at the module or the module is dead. If it's something else it will tell you.

For whatever reason Audi tied a lot of these systems to the airbag control unit, or just set it up so that the airbag/parking failure lights illuminate to get people in the door sooner.

The airbag control module has the faulty power supply contained within it. It specifically says so in the nhta report.

    AoA is Audi of America.

Yes the new airbag control module fixed all my issues; restored communication with the airbag control unit, turned off parking brake failure light (there never was an actual code for the parking brake, the airbag control module error was stored in the parking brake module), and returned my side assist to fully functional (there was never an error in the side assist system either).

My dual Airbag / Parking Brake cluster warnings occurred at the exact same time - When going over a bridge expansion joint on an excessively cold winter day that jarred the car at the same time. That sudden bump/shock to the car caused it.

    Codes I have;
    00473 - Control Module for Elect. Park/Hand Brake (J540)

    Airbags (J234)
    13636096 - Supply voltage
    U1012 00 (137) - Voltage too high

10485833 - Internal Control Module Memory Check Sum Error
    B2000 49 (137) - Internal electronic failure

    Parking Brake (J540)
01321 - Control Module for Airbags

I contacted Audi Canada. They told me a recall was in place for this (these) issues since July and to schedule an appointment for this recall work.
Recall work completed this past Wednesday and the Airbag Warning and the Emergency Hand Brake Warning are both gone from cluster display.
Airbag Control Module was replaced. Part # 8K0 959 655K
Audi Action (Recall) Code - 6901
    NHTSA Recall Code - 16V376
Transport Canada Recall code - 2016246

resurrecting this thread...wondering if anyone else had this done and how it went?

I took my car in for this recall (as i actually had the error codes pop up, airbag lights came on, and parking brake light came on). I checked all plugs/connections/brakes etc that i could. Cleared the code(s) and they kept coming back.

Booked the car into audi to have the work done. They replaced the unit with no problem, but now they said the new unit keeps triggering a crash sensor fault and they dont know why (my car hasnt been in any accidents, nor have i had any 'crash sensor' related codes come up before) - wondering if anyone else had this issue (or heard of it happening)?

I just stumbled upon this. Not sure if it applies to you but perhaps the Audi shop didn't code that replacement power supply module correctly thereby creating the issue you have now. At any rate, they created a problem that wasn't there prior to the recall work. I'd say they are responsible for solving this.

    Thanks for the info @jschrauwen!!

I know they had coding problems because they kept the car for a week waiting to hear from audi canada regarding coding....

    except...

the ppl @audi of mississauga gave me the car back WITH these new faults..the service adviser (who is not a mechanic) was saying that they didnt diagnose the crash sensor problems because its 'not really related', so i would have had to pay for it.... uhh wtf??

i asked how she figured that?

they replaced a module that communicates directly with those crash sensors, now the sensors aren't 'working', and it wasnt like that before i dropped the car off (i saved the vcds download prior to dropping my car off; which shows there were no issues with anything in my airbag/crash sensor system).

(they replaced #9 and now #5 doesnt work. And these parts are all listed under the same system)

they also didnt reinstall my drivers side door panel; it was literally hanging and flopping around, and they didnt plug back in the crash sensor behind the drivers side door panel. I took pictures and emailed them right away

I called audi canada and they basically said its the dealership that has to resolve it, but the dealership (at least the service adviser) doesnt 'think' one action caused the other effect - which i will argue

on a side note, i asked them NOT to wash the car, because i recently spent about 7 hours clay bar, then removing swirls, then polish, then seal then wax...the car looked amazing.....they washed the car and now it looks like someone rubbed it down with 2000grit sandpaper

fml i'm so annoyed i cant think straight. I took the car in working fine, and i get it back with errors and paint f'd up
