    A7 DSG failure!

Dang here we go!, yellow oil on the garage floor, and "Gearbox failure, you can continue to drive with reduced functionality".
When it shifts gears it feels like its a worn out clutch in low gears, works ok in easy going traffic.

Any thoughts?, I can't seem to find similar posts here, but then again, the US version is a "proper automatic" as far as I know.

So it is 3.0t DSG dl501, like the b8 s4?

    What year?

The S6 has the dl511 dsg.

I see 2011, that was a year of many b8 s4 DSG failures. There were circuit board issues & other problems on the 2011 DSG .

No such thing exists. That was a single typo in Audi literature that got propagated around. There is some speculation that it is a "beefed up" DL501 but there is no proof or details of what if anything was strengthened for the S6/S7 duty.

Well l definitely wouldn't drive it if it's dropped it's oil over the floor, regardless of what the DIS display says.

I would get it picked up and taken to your dealer for diagnosis. If you have regularly had it serviced inside the dealer network, they may be sympathetic.

I've also seen plenty of these boxes on eBay, if you need to replace.

Low fluid will cause all sorts of problems.

I hope you haven't driven it much like that.

Well The DL511-7Q is listed in the Audi SSP 920223 on the 4.0TT for the S6/S7. It also has a coasting (free wheel) function that the S4 did not have.

There was also a DQ511 10 speed transmssion, which had the freewheel coast mode, but it seems to have been cancelled: http://articles.sae.org/13750/
    and ..... http://www.leftlanenews.com/vw-shelv...ion-89725.html

"Designated internally as DQ511, the 10-speed is closely based on the current 7-speed DSG (DQ500), which also has a 550-N·m peak torque capability."

"The DQ511 gearbox would have served as an drop-in alternative to VW's seven-speed DSG, adding extra gears for improved drive-off performance and better fuel efficiency at highway speeds. Fuel consumption is further reduced via engine decoupling while coasting, along with low-friction bearings and special coatings on the gearwheels."

Yep, that's the typo I'm referring to. The only existence of the mythical DL511 which has curiously identical specs to the DL501.

The (free wheel) function you refer to is software function enabled/disabled based on model use and location. It is definitely NOT in use in the US S6.

The S6 in sport/dynamic, holds the gear & engine brakes, but in comfort/auto mode, it feels like it is disconnected after letting off the throttle.

Perhaps that software was changed for 2016 but I think you are the first to mention it. Or you are just feeling the effect of the lower gear in sport/dynamic since auto/comfort always aspires to be in highest gear possible.
AFAIK The freewheel function is only enabled if you have drive select mode "economy" I think a few enabled the mode via VCDS but IIRC they did not like the results.

In Economy the DSG acts very oddly. If you are coasting/braking and try to accelerate there is nothing, nothing BAM hard hit. Almost like there was a ton of driveline slack. However, I can easily get 20+ MPG in Economy if that's my goal. Just been driving in Comfort instead.

    Are these dealer prices?

You should be able to find a good independent who can do this much cheaper, maybe even repair/overhaul the unit.

Yes dealer pricing, looking for an alternative.
I could go on holiday to Germany for a few days, probably half price there...

I don't understand it can be 5K for the work, that equals a week of work here in Norway. assuming 124 ich dollars / hour.

In the US, the first DSG service is at 35k. I'm guessing it's every 35k miles after that so you should have had your second DSG service recently? Are you sure they didn't leave a drain plug loose?
