How easy is it to drop a S5 v8 fsi engine into my b6?

Contemplating pulling my engine out and doing a whole lot of work to it. I mean a shitload. But it could be easier to drop the S5 fsi lump into it. Can it be done? What's involved?

Anything is possible with unlimited time and money. Any thought onto the supercharged V6 instead? You'd definitely be able to achieve higher power and torque, I think.

    Yeah but it's not a v8 😝

I'm aiming for the most cost effective solution.

I have my gearbox in pieces due to a crunching 3rd. However everything appears be ok. A lot of wear, but nothing that stands out. The cost of replacing all the synchros is £600 alone. After including most of the bits I need for the engine, the total comes to £2k - just for parts! This is getting ridiculous. Thank fuck I do all the work myself.

Youd have to re do fuel and ecu system. Its possible, been looking into that option for my friends car. Def cheaper option than rs4 engine.

I just finished the RS4 fsi swap.. there is nothing easy or cheap about it. Still working out kinks in communication between car systems and engine. It's doable, but it's a major undertaking and shouldn't be entered into lightly. Come up with a budget and then double it.

The new S5's are the V6 supercharged engines. The older S5's are V8's which is what the OP is referring to

I would assume they all went to timing chain. Only on the 4 cylinders I know they still have timing belts but even those have all but gone away too. Would it be safe to assume the S5's (V8) motor is almost based off/identical/same to the RS4's motor?

S5 with a v8 is a chain engine. the 2.0t in 2009 and newer cars are chain engines.

Ok looks like there are 2 varieties of fsi. The standard one which is in the s5 and the q7, then the high revving one in the rs4 and r8. The one in the s5 and q7 have 4v heads, whereas the s4 has a 5v head.

If there's too much work involved then I'll probably give it a miss. Cba with all the aggro seeing as winter is approaching and it's my daily as well.

If that was a quip to me, then yes, I'm quite aware of that. Hence why I asked about the blown V6.

Not trying to be a dick. OP did state a V8 fsi. I was trying to help. No issues here. Honestly a blown V6 would be a awesome swap in these cars but $$$$$ I bet

Yeah, sorta came off that way. OP also said "contemplating" so I asked if he had thought about the blown V6. Water under the bridge.

The FSI engines have guides that are mostly metal and much less likely to experience failure, even if the composite layer broke off the aluminum guide I don't think that would allow enough slop for timing to jump.

Nope. The V8 S5 suffers from the same/similar issues as the RS4. The PCV/oil separator sucks oil into the intake manifold causing a lot of carbon buildup that doesn't allow the correct amount of air into the cylinder and fouls the fuel injectors. Otherwise very solid reliable engine with forged internals, not as good of a material as the RS4s but still forged.
