    I'm in abs module hell

Ok I'm trying to remove my abs module to send off to get repaired but for the life of me I can't figure out how to shift it such a way that I can access the bottom torx bolts that are holding it to the pump. Any suggestions?

This is my progress so far.

It was definitely a little tricky to get to those two. I seem to remember needing to take one out, shift the thing around, and then take the other out. If you look toward the firewall, one of the lines can be unclipped to give you the ability to move it around more.

I used a really small (smaller than 1/4" drive) ratchet for the job that I picked up from home depot. I went really slow, loosening them in small increments. Those last two took a loooooong time. You'll probably need to code the module with VAGCOM afterwards too, which I had my local shop do.

I didn't. You're not putting a different one back in.

I replaced my ABS module, when I did my Tiptronic to 6-speed manual swap.

It was easy - remove the 2 plastic retaining clips either side of the hydraulic modulator, pull it upwards, and towards the engine. Dead easy, took 5 minutes.

Ahh that's right. I didn't read the part where the OP mentioned he was re-using his original module.

Got it out thanks everyone. Had a hell of a time since part of the gasket had fused to the pump block.

What's a repair on one of those usually worth?

Yeah please dont pay $300 for this job. Plenty of people are capable of fixing these for much less than that.

What is typically defective? The solenoid coils themselves? or is it the controller?

My understanding is it's weak solder joints on the pcb
