Strange sound like a crow stuck under my car

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Yesterday i noticed when off the throttle and i have the windows down i can hear what sounds like crows cackling. I know that sounds mental but every so often i hear this sound it doesnt appear to be coming from the engine bay, no fault codes, i can't see any loose connections either.
It sounds like its coming more from the rear of the car on the passenger side and I've tried to replicate it but it sounds like it happens around 2,000 rpm. I need to test it more but I'm sure it wasn't there before. Only 2 things i can think of is 1.) stepped tyres or something stuck in the tyre. 2.) something loose under the car since i had the resonator delete 2 weeks back. its really hard to describe but it sounds like a crow or raven following me and it only lasts for a fraction of a second or so.
im not sure if its the exhaust grating on something or has a loose tie.

anyone else got ideas or know what it might be?

Ill try do a video but I've misplaced my go pro (typical)

    it's doing my head in.

It doesnt happen when applying the brakes either.

Maybe a crow has set up home under my wheel arches

Haven't you just completed the centre box delete?

Are you sure it's not the rasps and pops your hearing?

The passenger side (on our cars) is the side with the exhaust valve. Maybe it's flapping, crow style

This would be pretty amazing if it was in fact the added pops from his exhaust!

No it's not that. I can hear the pops and bangs this is something else. Just took it to the shop and they said sounds like there are some stones in the exhaust tips. Great. Gonna take it in and get them to check it out

HAHA! I'm afraid it's even worse and it's Trump. My car grabbed a woman vagina last night and said it was going to build a wall around it.

This is the noise sorry for the poor quality video https://youtu.be/1hMuFcDyow4 sounds like it's coming from the exhaust when I've had someone run the engine and listen outside. Any ideas?

Sure it's not from the front of the car? The only thing I can think of coming from the rear is a suspension component going bad/old, bearing(s) because sh*t rolls down hill meaning one problem you can identify is causing the problem you can, something loose I.e. exhaust hanger, bolt or nut..the vibration around that rpm range might be enough to make something back there do it. I'd double check on how tight everything is and inspect stuff for excessive wear, etc....Troubleshoot thoroughly...eventually you'll find it.

Worse case and I don't recommend this so if something bad happens its on you, not me, get the car in the air and put the rpm load range on the car and see it if does it then. Atleast you could be next to it. Just don't dump the clutch or something good luck

Thanks I'm pretty sure it's the rear passenger side. The car only has 10,000 miles on and is a 2016. Do bearings go so easily? It sounds like metal on metal to me

I've seen some sh*t in my life tbh, anything is possible. It's almost the weekend 100% so delegate some time to inspect it. It's so new it's probably something absolutely silly. If you can't figure it out, the stealership it is

Thanks RingLeader02 rattles and creaky sounds really are a big bug bare for me. I don't keep much in the car for this reason. You're right though it's probably something simple. Enjoy your weekend dude

So I got a friend to come for a drive with me, he's pretty good with all things cars and we noticed that it only occurs when the exhaust valves are closed and it's the left pipe. We tried many times to replicated and it's between 2-3000rpm it happens when not in dynamic. So looks like a dodgy butterfly valve. What are the options? Cutting in to the muffler to remove the valve seems like a lot of work. Can you keep then open all the time somehow? Or remove then without cutting in to the box? Man if I have to do that I may as well get a new cat back. It's a new car how's this even possible

Why not just take it to the dealer and get it covered under warranty?

Do you know how many things I've done to my car? Taking it back stock will take more time and money than paying myself. I will td1 so fast

The centre delete and X-pipe won't stand you in good stead with the dealer, for an exhaust problem unfortunately.

Here is the parts diagram for the rear box, http://audi.7zap.com/en/rdw/audi+a6+.../2/253-253089/ #6 is the flap servo.

I'm thinking it's unlikely to be the crow, sorry flap, erm, fapping How about a dodgy electrical connection or the servo motor. If you can get it on a ramp, that will help with the diagnosis.

If the servo is not fully operational, the flap may be in an intermittent position, allowing exhaust gasses to flow past, and induce a crowing noise.

guessing heat shield that is touching and vibrating as suggested above. That should be an easy fix if that is the case. Good luck.

I've just had my front bearings replaced and that was more of a loud droning noise... Got louder and higher pitched the faster I went! Noise was only evident from 25mph as well..

Had the car in the shop today to remove the front resonators. Very happy it pops and crackles like mad now. Should have done this with the x pipe. Well worth £140.
The crows have gone too. Just disconnected the rear exhaust flap and that worked. Looks like a loose valve or something but the crows have vacated.
