99.5 new project

I just picked up a 99.5 with 150000kms. It had a bunch of misfire codes so out in new spark plugs. It starts but idles at 500 and if you touch the accelerator it wants to die. Not sure where to look. Has good compression.

The engine is an AEB Auto... been sitting since 2011.


It's not misfire codes it's injector codes.

Injector1 open circuit


Injector2 open circuit


Injector3 open circuit


Injector 4 open circuit


Throttle valve controller malfunction

Your fuel system is probably all gunked up. I'd replace the fuel filter and dump out any of the old fuel that's sitting in the tank and put in some fresh 91 or 93 for starters.

Check the ICM.

Icm will cause misfires of spark. Not injector codes.

The bad fuel idea is good however the code is for a circuit. That means that when the Ecu performs it's test on the circuitry the "circuit" is "open" and we all know an "open" circuit means a wire is disconnected, bad dirty grounds, terminals etc.

Clean battery terminals etc. Make sure Ecu is getting proper voltage, check harness, clean corroded grounds.

Plus with the random throttle valve controller malfunction code that is different than the injectors makes no sense . I'm not saying there couldn't be multiple codes nor problems but I bet once you find the bad wires. Both problems will be solved.

Unplugged the maf and there was no change in how it ran

Lol... He also checked the grounds under the tank. gonna go over this weekend perhaps with a different ecu and see what happens. Go over the harness and all the hidden fuses aswell.

I'd ohm out the injectors, make sure they aren't internally shorted or open. Sounds like the throttle body is bitched too, either it needs an adaptation and if that doesn't work then replacement

I have a hard time believing that all 4 would be bad. My 97 made it to 311k Kms on most likely original shit, all I know was the ecu was swapped out with a Passat one at some point.

ohm'd out the injectors all are reading the same so they check out.

Took down the lower panel to check relays and there was a loose relay 32 not sure if it goes somewhere.

well changed out the ecu and no more issues now on to taking care of all the other little things

Shoved the relay 32 in that slot and no change... Swapped in my 557p ecu and it fixed the problems. He has to change the oil since it has a bunch of water in it. Then test drive.
