Carbon Fiber Vinyl, I know I hate me too

I got some carbon vinyl to cover some dents in my aluminum center trim (previous owner). I wanted to install the vinyl as a short term solution until I figured out what I want to do with the interior. I was actually very impressed with how real the vinyl looks in person, it even has a carbon feel and 3D texture. I thought I would post some pics as it looks a lot better than I expected. I haven't done the ashtray lid yet but I will.

I had some left over so I did the lip of the front bumper. Using a heat gun to get it flat and smooth is key. I really am surprised how hard to tell even when touching the part that it is a vinyl wrap.

Very impressive. Hell, could you lay down a clear coat on top of that and call it a day?

For sure, it would cost about $10 for the front lip all in. About as cheap a mod as you can get. I am sure there are folks on here that think I am a douche because it isn't real but it's also not $3k!

Looks great! Nice work. I pondered doing this on the front lip too with some I have left over (not my 1st rodeo with cf vinyl), might have to give it a try.

You certainly have me tempted to try it on my front lip and the little aluminum thing that sticks out from the rear diffuser. Think I'll give it a go.

looks great.. thinking of wrapping my chrome trim around windows with gloss black vinyl. Would this be a simple DIY as well? What tools do I need other than the vinyl.

I have another post where I blacked out my window chrome. Yes, very easy DIY. I used matte vinyl since it does better in the sun. Gloss scratch and fade to matte after a few years.

There are speciality tapes for covering chrome trim. 3M shadowline vinyl and Trim Brite black out tape are a couple names.

I plasti dipped the whole thing black, turned out real nice imo. I did remove it when I did it to make sure it was cleaner, real simple to do.

You're correct. Get some blue painters tape and some garbage bags and cover the back of the car. You want to avoid overspray for time reasons not because it is going to cause any damage.

Clean well (I use alcohol last) and let dry.

Spray many coats but light. You want to avoid drips and runs. I do about 5-7 coats. They go fast.

I run a razor blade in gaps before I remove the tape (between variance and body, but of course do not run a blade on the paint). I do this so that when I pull the tape off I don't mistakenly start to pull off the plastidip on the part I want coated.

I actually don't have my rear valance done but it's pretty straight forward. I think there was someone else on here that did that.

The rear valance is pretty easy to remove so that's probably the best bet

Yes, used a heat gun and razor blade. Of course be careful with the blade, go lightly so you don't cut anything else.

I take a plastic tool or a fingernail and really crease the vinyl where I want the blade to go so it has a groove to follow.

Then I use a credit card to work the vinyl into the creases once it's cut
