    2000 a4 Quattro. Auto, 2.8. This is whining for the first few minutes after startup, is located on bottom of engine in the front by passenger tire; just in front of the alternator. It has plastic hoses running to it and an electric connection.

    Secondary Air Injection (SAI) pump. It's to help the catalytic converter(s) come up to operating temperature faster after a cold start.
