My friend owns a dealership and I can get a "new car"warranty for 1800 bucks out the door. Would you guys recommend doing it?

    I'm trying to choose between

    36/50
    36/75
    48/50
    60/55

prices are within the 200 bucks range

I wouldn't do it. Most warranty companies are shady. They require you to get your maintenance done professionally, and when the warranty needs to be used to fix something major, the company wants proof that you didn't abuse/install unqualified mods that lead to the repair, otherwise they will deny coverage. Save that $1800 and use it when something major actually breaks down. It is quite rare for a major repair that cost $1800+ when the car is in top shape when you purchase it. Most of the time, the car only qualifies if and only if, it has already been serviced pretty well to start with.

No. Not to sound like a jerk, but a friend wouldn't be trying to steer you anywhere near this. It's like a friend who owns a casino and he suggests you come in to play blackjack. :)

I agree with everyone here that aftermarket warranty complies are shady... BUT. I purchased one with my used 3.2L Q and recently had a intake valve that was damaged. The engine had to be pulled apart, took 5 weeks but my aftermarket warranty paid the bill in the end! $3,200 it would have cost me. Now I'm probably an exception but I thought I should put in my 2 cents.

The 3.2L Q has a known oil issue that can cause a world of hurt over time. If you are purchasing the 08-12 Q5, then the warranty doesn't 'look so bad.

Depends - read all the fine print and understand what you are buying. If at all possible, try to find a CPO Audi as it will come with its own warranty and better peace of mind.

What is this "oil issue" you speak of? I have a 2011 Q5 and your comment makes me nervous...
