    Used Q7 - 3.0T or TDI?

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Seeking feedback as I consider the previous gen Q7 (2012-2014).

    - will tow a camper dozen times a year, typically only 500mi per trip. Camper loaded is ~5300lbs
    - primary use is for my wife to use around town,- 8000mi per year

Only concern is buying TDI before diesel scandal settlement is finalized.

    Thoughts?

Screw the settlement. I would easily have taken the TDI over the 3.0 (I wanted a 2015 Q5 TDI and dealers couldn't sell me a new one).

Then tune and really reap the benefits.

    .

To clarify my concern about buying pre-settlement, I'd buy used from private party or as a non CPO when I'd know a settlement is pending. Thus, I may be eligible to get the "fix" but excluded from any financial compensation similar to the 2.0 TDI deal.

As for tuning the 3.0TDi, I'm unfamiliar with what's available. FWIW, I had a 2000 A6 2.7T 6MT with the APR Stage1 tune and it was quite a noticeable difference from stock. Is the difference of similar magnitude? Obviously, Q7 would serve a much different purpose compared to A6

What happens when the fix robs the car of 50hp and if you don't fix it, you can't smog it.

THAT's when I take the buyback. I hope it never comes to that though. I expect the lawyers and environmentalists and Audi (VAG) to be negotiating till long after ours is worn out. :-/ I do wish we could get another though. Bought ours to tow track car and launch boat and to make grandkid visits 650 miles away. It has been perfect for those duties. If this ends in some way that those unsold new TDIs can be bought at a significant discount (and without significantly degraded performance), I'll be shopping.

I'm starting to get anxious about the 3.0 liter resolution/settlement, I leased my 2014 TDI with the intention of buying it off the lease, honestly believing the car would be worth well above my purchase option, so would either give me a good deal on a car that I loved/wanted to keep, or, would give me some leverage or equity with the dealer at trade-in assuming they wanted to take the car and re-sell as CPO and the wife pushed hard for a new one.

We take good care of our cars and only put on about 6-7k miles/ year. Lease is up May 1, 2017, currently only have 16,000 miles on the odometer, so if I hand it back, I will have paid for about 10,000 miles I didn't use....annoying.

Trying to decide soon whether or not to keep the car so we can plan accordingly for a new one if it needs to be ordered. Audi's/CARB are killing us here!

Is that likely, degradation by 50hp? Since these are fitted with Adblue, can't they fix the 3.0TDI without much performance or fuel mileage degradation?
