Hello peeps. New to this thread, been over to the C5 A6 Quattro realm with our '02 avant.
She's almost kaput, and I am looking at a 2010 A4 Quattro Avant with the 2.0T.
I'm seeing soo much here about the oil consumption probs. I was totally unaware (a6 has 3.0 with enuf issues to keep me busy!)
I'm concerned abound the potential timebombness?
Serviced at the dealer since new, only has 60K, all looks purty good right?
Then I look here and see the
oil consumption issues and go Hmmmm.
Then I dive into the Carfax and try to extrapolate what was happening.
See if you guys see the redflags I do? Or am I being paranoid?
After looking round here i see there was a class action Audi is taking care of this? Would I qualify as a second owner?
Part of me sez to run fast, but I dunno... Car is in spotless condition, and they want 17k.
Here's the tale of the tape via carfax. All normal till
8/27/13 Passed PA emissions inspection test (EmIT)
10/10/13 36676 miles -Cooling System Checked, Water Pump replaced.
8/7/14 43674 mi - Passed EmIT
8/20/15 51,627 mi - Passed EmIT
4 days, 2 miles later
8/24/15 51,629 mi - Computer reprogrammed Crankshaft pulley/balancer replaced, Drivability/Perf checked, Oil consumption test performed.
10/20/15 52,237 mi (about 600 miles later) The worringly vague "Vehicle Serviced"
11/3/15 52,921 mi (just 600 more) Drivability/perf check, Engine removed to complete repair, Oil pan replaced/repaired, Piston Rings replaced. (Was Engine Oil light on? Was consumption the concern)
8/31/16 60,440 mi Vehicle Serviced, Emissions or Safety Inspection performed (But not passed?!?)
9/15/16 60,827 mi - Vehicle Offered for sale. (Prolly the day he traded it in on the new CPO Audi it was supposedly replaced by.)
9/16/16 (no mileage listed) - Maintenance inspection completed, Emission inspection performed, Emissions or safety inspection performed. (And it now has new stickers good thru 9/2017)
So if I'm reading between the lines correctly, he brought it in 8/31 for inspection, it failed, service adviser told him what it was gonna cost him to fix and pass inspection, he said "What else ya have around", traded it in, and two weeks later POOF it has new stickers. Ready to sic this ticking bomb on the next sucker.
Sales Mgr told me he traded it in on a new CPO, and all they had to do to prep it for sale put new stickers on it...it was THAT clean.
I checked my shoes, nothing there but somethin smells iffy.
Gonna call the service department today to see if I can get a more detailed listing of work performed, and hopefully if the problem was rectified.
If Audi sees it as problem solved, I'm prolly gonna throw them a lowball offer of 13k or so.
Sorry for the long one, hope its in the right place, but any thoughts?
Thanks,
Jim
