Motor mounts and some other parts replacement

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Dealer told me both the two front mounts need to be replaced as they're leaking. I saw a few threads with DIY. How involved is it? I have basic tools and I'm very handy but is this something that should be left to professionals?

    I've been quoted from $1100-$1400.

The car is also missing some components. picture below

Please advise how critical is it to fix these issues.

    Thanks.

i did both motor mounts in my car after getting a similar quote for the dealer. i also had basic tools and considered myself very handy and confident. if you have access to a engine hoist that will make it go alot easier. i didnt have one so i was balancing the motor on jack stands floor jacks and 2x4 while removing the mounts. and then when it came to reinstalling the mounts i had to slowly lift the motor with the floor jack and try to angle it and stuff it was a nightmare but if you have a engine hoist all that can be avoided. if you have a buddy that is also good at working one car see if he can help it will make the job go by a lot faster. also i would recommend to do one side at a time and dont fully tighten and torque everything till both mounts are fully in. 034 motorsports has a good installation instruction that i would recommend read through before you do it to help you decide if you want to tackle the job. i will attach a link to the install instruction below if you fell confident in your ability and have a couple hours (4-5 minimum or more) to spare i say go for it.

Thanks for the support. I'm confident I can tackle this with some help. I don't have access to a hoist but might be able to find someone who does. Where did you get the part from?

034 mounts are good but expect a good amount of vibration at idle and stops if you have AT.

I'd get the missing air intake piece as right now you're engine is sucking in hot air from the engine bay mixed with some cool air from the front of the car....not good for your turbo or performance. The dips tick plug I'd skip....just make sure you don't mess with it. The coolant feed.....I wouldn't touch either as long as your car is not overheating, it shouldn't be restricting coolant flow and you should be fine.

Would you happen to know a part number for this? I don't have the car with me.

    Sorry just saw this....

I would get a new air filter also for your intake....because it's probably full of crap since you don't seem to have the strainer

Not sure if you have the following piece....which tightens everything up. Although by the looks of your pic, you might . Just confirm it

    Edit:

I was going to link you to www.genuineaudiparts.com which is where I get really good deals for stuff buy their site seems to be down....I would use parts.com if you're try8ng to find good prices

These are probably the intake parts you want:

    https://www.ecstuning.com/ES450310/
    https://www.ecstuning.com/ES450308/
    https://www.ecstuning.com/ES468687/ x2

    And here's the plug:

    https://www.ecstuning.com/ES281420/

But I would cross check these against your VIN before buying anything.

Would you recommend putting in a used engine mount from another car that was in a wreck? It had around 30K miles.

I would say no due to wear on the mounts could lead to them going out.
I would get two lemforder mounts from rmeuro. They'll run you 150-60 for both plus maybe a few hours per side definitely beats dealer price

The price looks way better than what you posted? Are these quality mounts or just some economy line? Can anybody please comment on these if you've used it?

    Thanks.

Yeah id order the lemforder and compare them to the oems....probably the same stuff.

Glad you opened this thread, i spent 400 on the 034 motorsport parts.... the oems were like 400 each!

At the end of the day its just some sort of metal and rubber. These lemforders look oem but at 25 percent of the price. Id try them!

Since you guys have been so helpful in finding these parts can you help me out? Aside from needing the strainer and air duct screws which were provided above (thanks so much!) I'm also in search of a couple of the screws that secure that upper cowl as well. Can you guys provide an ECS parts# if you know what screws I'm talking about (circled in red)

While I'm ordering parts from this site, I'd like to take advantage of the free shipping and order some more parts. The radiator overflow nipple has a crack and what part do I need to get that replaced? would I need coolant when I replace this overflow nipple? Also, any other hardware/tools I need from this site if I work on the turbo?

You'll need coolant if you swap the turbo. I'd suggest just spending the $80 on the install kit on ECS.

I'm using both sides lemforder mounts. So far so good

Lemforder is a oem quality meaning they're apart of the approved vw family of suppliers

Lemforder is part of ZF, who make our 8 speed transmission. Other ZF brands include Boges, Sachs, TRW, all well known brands.

Unfortunately those won't fit my 2011. The first two look ok in the link below?
