    2016 S7 Exhaust Sound

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Hey guys need a little help. I have a '16 S7 with sport exhaust and I love the sound when opened up a bit but find myself wanting more sound most of the time. I did have AWE on my A7 and it changed the sound of it dramatically. So question, is there anything I can do short of a full cat back system? Not worried so much about HP gains just want the sound. A buddy mentioned down pipes would help but to be honest I am clueless. IF only/best option is a new cat back system I'm open to it but would love your candid opinions. Thanks a million

How did you like the AWE on the A7?

I second the resenator delete. Before you drop a couple grand on an exhaust try deleting the resonator first as it will only cost a couple hundred bucks and does make a pretty big difference. Make sure to either do an X or H pipe as straight piping our exhaust would not be a good idea because of where the valves are located. I did an H pipe on mine but don't think there is a major difference between X and H.

Nope! Maybe for like 3 seconds when the car is cold in the morning and I drive down my street.

Likewise, none with resonator and centre muffler delete with x pipe replacement for the latter

Quick vid of cold start up on mine with resonator and centre muffler delete.

On the motorway if there is any drone which I don't hear anyway you can close the valves and then there is nothing.

anyone do the resonator delete on a C7 (pre face lift) w/o the sport exhaust? Would like to hear from that group as well since some say the difference was very subtle.

Did you buy a X-pipe or did muffler shop just make?

My exhaust shop just fabricated one up for me. Total cost was $250 bucks. I went with H pipe by the way, not because I prefer that over an X but it seemed that is what my exhaust shop wanted to make (probably easier for them to fab up). Not sure there is much of a difference between the two.

Just got this done this morning. For $150 (labor + x pipe) and 1 hr wait time, I can't complain. I also lucked out as the shop had a manga flow x pipe on hand. I'd say the volume increase is about 35-50% increase. I was seriously considering going with an AWE touring kit very soon but this will hold me over for a while. AK and sways next.

If you take out the resonators you may be happy enough not to need the AWE kit

I assume the resonators are the 2 cylinder shaped things toward the front?

How much louder vs stock would you say and no drone?

    Vid?

The two coke can shaped ones, yes. Lots more pops and bangs. In comfort it sounds like dynamic, in dynamic good base tone and about another 25-30% louder again. I'll try and sort some sound clips on my iPhone tomorrow weather dependent

Just so I understand correctly is the center resonator the muffler looking thing? The pic attached shows the two cylindrical things intact. Sorry for the potentially dumb question

That's not my pic above but that is the AFTER pic with the x pipe installed. We all had the suitcase removed and some remove those cylinders as well.

I believe only the sport exhaust gets the pops and cackles.

P_G has an RS7. The MY16 model of the S6 introduced the pops and crackles with standard and sport exhaust. The standard exhaust just masks it a lot more.
