    2000 A6 Trans Troubleshooting

Just purchased a 2000 A6 with the 4.2. I got it for a decent price, but with transmission problems. I have searched the forum and google for the same symptoms with no luck.

    What I am experiencing:
    1. Reverse works great.
    2. Shifting from N to D the car begins to pull for a few seconds and then doesn't pull. I have to bring the rpms up to 2000 and it will shift into 5th and throw a code. Gear ratio incorrect.

The car will stay in 5th and drive just fine, but it takes some time to get up to speed. I have a vag-com and have cleared the code and it keeps coming back. Checked the trans fluid level by removing the filler plug and attempting to add fluid.

The car came with a second tcm but it doesn't change the results. Some other history on the vehicle, it currently has 217k and had the trans rebuild at 190k.

Any help would be appreciated with what the next steps should be. Hoping this might just be a solenoid or something other than removing the trans.

Here is some troubleshooting that I have been doing through the Vag-Com if anyone is interested. Can we have links to youtube? If not, please let me know and I will remove this. After speaking with Kody, I took a further look at the valvebody solenoids to see how they were working. I need to test the resistance on these before removing the pan. Does anyone have a wiring diagram for the tcm connector? I would rather test here than under the car. The connector on the trans is awkward to get leads on and make sure you are on the correct pins. In Part 2 of the video at 3:15 I begin monitoring the solenoids and shifting.

    Part 1

    Part 2

    Thanks!
