    2013 Allroad 3.0T swap Thread

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I like the avants only section and wanted to start a discussion about the 3.0T swap into B8/8.5 and thought this would be a good place to do so.

I currently have a 2013 Allroad and also a 2012 B8 S4 parts car. I am starting the process of gathering info to swap my Allroad to a 3.0T motor, trans, cluster, sport rear diff from the donor S4.

I understand the difficulty, cost, and time. But who wouldnt want a Facelifted wide hipped wagon version of the S4 ?

Has anyone completed this on the B8 platform ?

B8, yes. There's a recent 3.0T & 6MT swap on a B8 Avant floating around here. As far as I know, it hasn't been done on a B8.5 allroad yet.

That's one, but not the 6MT car I'm referring to.

What year is your donor and are you planning on a manual trans?

Allroads have electric power steering while your 2012 has a mechanically driven power steering pump. There is a pto on the rear drivers side of the 2012 motor in the rear and a small drive shaft that spins the power steering pump that is near flush with the front of the motor. You will need to use the ECU and engine wiring harness from the donor and I believe that the electric power steering needs to communicate with the ECU (which was for a car without EPS) so you have some potential issues there. Federal EPA requirements mandate that you may only swap engines from an equal or newer model year. Since your donor is older then your AR you could run into problems trying to get your car to pass an emission test depending on how your state performs the test. The VIN number from your donor will show up when the computer reads your ECU. .
Ideally you want a donor of the same year as your Allroad and equally equipped. If you do this you will have less chance of having wiring changes that may require repining of connectors. The sport diff wiring will need to be added to your body harness and I can't say how easy or difficult that will be as my sport diff is just along for the ride right now. The only harness that was used from my donor was the engine harness. Additional wires were run for the clutch position sensor and a few other things. You may want to look into how the trans wiring differs from the AR to the S4 trans.
This swap is not for the feint of heart and I have not found a documented swap. My car is running and driving because of the shop that did the work and some help from a tech at the local dealer. I still have a few unexplained lights which may be eliminated with some programming that I hope to have addressed soon.

This is so accurate. I was hoping the schematics and hardware would be able to adapt with each other with just a little homework... I agree a same Model year car would be needed. Unfortunately I'm not going to by a wreck b8.5 s4. I have all the parts for a 2012 if anyone is considering the work.

I think I'll just spend the money and effort on a k04... :(

I'm holding out for the EFR setup, as I'm happy with Stage 2 on E85 for now.
