Can VAG-COM scan engines for cam position before they run?

I have never had access to a scan computer before, at least not one of the ones that our cars can use, my question is, can you use it to scan an engine before firing it up and see if the cam positions are off? Or does the engine need to be running to get any of those codes? I am about to order one, wondering if it can tell me if the intake cams are out of sync with the exhaust cams?

It can scan the ecu I'm sure of they are out you would have already set a code for it. Best way to know if you think they are out you don't want to turn the engine over anyway to avoid valve damage if they are. So best way a leak down test or pull valve covers and line ups timing marks.

I have turned the engine over by hand with a socket on the crank, everything feels fine, no interference, and I know the cams in each head were aligned after i replaced the cam chain tensioner gaskets, just wondering if there is any way one cam could skip a tooth as i'm turning engine by hand. I didn't hear of feel anything odd, Im probably overthinking it, I'm pretty sure it is fine, just wondering if a scan can verify before i fire up the engine. Maybe I should just start it, if i can turn it over by hand, it should be fine, right? I've just never worked on a car with cam chain tensioners before, scared that since they were compressed to change their gaskets, maybe there is some special procedure to re-establish oil pressure and prevent skipping? I should have left the valve covers off until the timing belt job was done and verified, but I didn't. If they were aligned after I bolted down the tensioners, is there any chance they could then get off from rotating the crank? Seems unlikely... but any feedback is appreciated...

Only reason I even worry about it at all is the jumping action of the cam chain tensioners, is that normal or OK for them to pop up and down as the cams rotate? I didn't worry about it until the valve covers were back on, I want to start her up, but so far, I have been hesitant because of this fear over the chain tensioners.

That is normal when they jump as long as your .arks line up

You mean like this? I experienced this with old and new tensioners & always wondered the same thing.

Yeah, exactly like that! Both sides acted like the drivers side did in that video. But it started right up yesterday, runs nice and smooth. You can hear the chain tensioners make noise for a few seconds after the engine starts before oil gets too them.
