    CPO warranty question

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hi all,

So I recently bought my S4 from a local Audi dealer. They did not list the car as CPO, and tried to sell me an extended warranty at the time of purchase, which I declined.
When I called Audi of America and gave them my vin to see if there was any leftover Audicare or anything else I should know about, they told me that the car was sold to the previous owner as a CPO car, and that the CPO warranty should transfer to me.
They told me to ask my dealer about it, which I plan to do.

I wanted to ask on here first though, if anyone has had any experience with that?

Any thoughts on how to proceed?

    Thanks!

You have to pay a fee to get the warranty transferred.

I'm a finance guy for an Audi dealer. You are not able to get the certified warranty transferred since you purchased from the Audi dealership. If it was a private party sale then the cpo warranty could be transferred for like $75

Bmw is the only brand that the cpo warranty follows the car from my understanding

You should probably know what warranty it has and all the other important info before you buy the car...

What about the regular warranty? I was told I still have 7 months left on the warranty on my 2013 s4 when I bought it from the dealer.

Here's the deal with the CPO:

It is transferable through private party ONLY if the private seller is the original purchaser of the CPO vehicle from an Audi dealer.
Audi then requires a $150 transfer fee, bill of sale, and a signed and notarized form by both the seller and buyer to transfer the CPO. They then review it, and at their discretion will transfer the CPO over to the new buyer. *This is important to understand since there is a lot of buying and selling of used cars on this forum and most people think it transfers automatically with the car*
Once the car and CPO become property of the new owner, it is NO LONGER transferable to another party. Even if the new owner wanted to sell it a week later, doesn't matter. Audi won't transfer it more than once.

In the case of the OP, once a CPO car goes to a dealer, the car is no longer CPO. Audi makes their dealers pay them a close to $2k fee to re-certify the car in order to be able to sell it as certified pre owned.

Thanks for the info. I guess I got bad info from the person on the line at AoE.

I guess if I don't have to worry about a warranty, that means a tune is in order

I leased a 2016 S4 DSG and may keep the car after the lease is over. My dealer said I can buy the CPO for about $2500(?) but I think it has a $80 deductible every time I use the CPO. Is it worth buying the CPO warranty? I'm thinking it is especially given DSG repairs might be expensive. Any views would be appreciated.

That sounds like a third party warranty, not CPO. You don't pay a separate fee for CPO coverage. The car qualifies as CPO or it doesn't.

You can get it certified but it has to meet certain requirements for it to happen. Most dealers say the cpo cost them about $1500-2000

Not true. You absolutely pay a fee for it. Audi charges the dealer close to $2k to CPO the car. The dealer in turn will charge that fee to the customer, and sometimes even charge a little extra so they can make money on it.

My misunderstanding. I didn't know a dealer could give a buyer an option: Thought they always went CPO if possible (and charged more than a non CPO car of course).

Well, its totally the dealers option if they want to certify the car. For example, if they are taking a car in on a trade, and they want to pay Audi the $2k upfront to CPO it, then they're going to charge that fee to the new buyer in the form of a higher asking price for that car. You won't see it listed specifically as a fee, but you will 100% pay for it.

In the case of "Low Orbit" who you originally responded to, the dealer is willing to CPO the car for him, but they are charging him the fee that they have to pay to Audi. (They might even be charging him more at $2500.) Since he leased the car new from them, they weren't in a position to CPO the car at that time.
