    Radar detectors vs Acura&GMC

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So almost all of the older detectors are going bananas with the K band from Acura and GMC group of vehicles. I am thinking of switching to the newly released IX or the 360. What are y'all's thoughts on it? And would anybody be interested in a group buy if we can talk them into doing it?

I had my V1 updated last year and that took care of the false warning from blindspot systems.

I was about to post an update on here. This is what happened- I talked to Escort for quite a bit on Friday since I have been using their detectors for some time now. Regardless of what I said or explained, their statement was the same- radar tech is constantly changing and the only option is to buy the newer product to keep up with the changes. It just baffled me that they dont have a way of taking care of existing, long time customers. And tbh I dont plan on dropping 650 bucks on a detector only to look at replacing it in an year again. This brings me to the Valentine V1. A couple of people I know have been using it for over 5 years now and they just get it updated , just like @RRF985 said.
@Yas I tried to talk to Escort and an authorized retailer for a GB. They are not interested in doing it. They said we could buy it at their retail price.

I have had Valentine V1s for over 15 years and recently upgraded two of them to get the K band junk fighter to eliminate all the false alerts due to the new lane assist on new cars. I also bought the bluetooth module for one of them and I run the YaV1 app and WAZE on a dedicated android device and I am very happy with it. I know a lot of people think the V1 has fallen behind compared with some of the new detectors out there, but their ability to refresh the hardware and firmware makes it a nice investment,

I have actually ordered the V1. Tbh I dont need GPS location stuff - I thought I did but I really don't. And without the GPS needs, I think V1 will suit me better.

Well yea. No surprise there. It's the light from the LEDs. I find Volvos and Mazdas to be the most offending. Sometimes the sun will set it off as well. Pretty sure they can't cancel that out since it's light based.

I have a newer version V1 and it got rid of everything except the false lasers like others have stated. I do have it set for custom sweeps which helps out more also. It was cheaper for me to sell my previous version for 300 then to do the upgrade so I just bought the newer one. The BT module is pretty cool to use with your phone.

I replaced my 8500 X50 back in January with an Escort Passport..... Greatly reduced my K band falses and overall is a way better detector. With Bluetooth and Escort Live its a great detector.

The 9500ix is actually getting better reviews than the max 360 when I was looking at upgrading this year. I ended up just picking up another 9500 for a different car for that reason. Keep in mind you are still going to get some falsing from the radar systems from cars. The only way not to get them is to silence that band... which is the same band that some police run on. V1 are notoriously noisy detectors that force the user to shut down bands that police may be operating on in order to keep them even somewhat effective at weeding out signal versus noise. The 9500 is much much better at this but its not going to be perfect.

I agree. I found the 9500ix better reviewed than the new ix and the 360 (on some occasions). But after the new update on the V1 that takes out traffic monitoring signals and K bands spewing from the safety features on cars. I talked to them last week and they told me that there is quite a huge difference between the K band from a LEO and the K band from safety features. The LEO K band strength is way higher than the passenger cars. But the sensitivity of our radars causes an alert regardless of the K band strength. The V1 update reads the low strength K and stores it. Then the next time if it encounters the same K, it will not go off. This was their explanation. I am giving V1 a try. If its no better than my 9500ix, I will switch back to the 9500ix.

Can you explain what this sweeping thing is more? Does it fine tune the V1 not to false? Do I need a phone with it all the time?

It does fine tune the frequency bands. Instead of scanning across the whole band you narrow down the frequency to a specific gap and it will scan just that gap. It's actually faster because it's only scanning a small gap. You will need the blue tooth dongle for your respective device to program it from the V1 app. Read through some of those stickies in the link I posted. There are some things you can turn off/on within the V1 to help with the false alerts.

Be careful with that. K Bands are not as easily segmented as Ka Bands. The US K band spectrum is very small and widely used. When I lived in Texas, everything from the LEOs were Ka and Laser, but since I moved to Georgia I get them all, but mostly K. Anyway, my point is that LEOs are getting more aware to the "false" alert areas and set traps at that location with the same frequency. I have see it happen here by the GSP at least twice.

Sooooo.. I have the Valentine V1 now. But... darn its noisy af in the city! I mean non stop K beep beep beep. Problem is that I cant turn the K off since the cops use K in the city. I might be going back to the escort. Probably the ix or if I find a deal on the 360.

Get the bluetooth module and run either YaV1 for android or V1Driver for IOS. This will allow you to setup customer sweeps, GPS based muting and low speed muting. Just be aware that there is a different bluetooth module for android vs. IOS and they are not compatible. I run YaV1 and WAZE on a dedicated, hard wired android device and my V1 pretty much only goes off on real threats. Also make sure you have the Junk K Fighter feature enabled to eliminate all the falses caused by driver assist radar in newer cars.

Lots of good info here. http://www.rdforum.org/forumdisplay.php?f=13

i still haven't read those stickies from that page linked (and will), but if you do run an ios or android with blue tooth, do you need to have a phone in the car with the bluetooth constantly to do custom sweeps or is it where you attach to v1, program and leave it until you need to do custom sweeps again.

You will need the bluetooth to connect to the V1 to set up the custom sweeps. You will also need to be in Euro mode. Once everything is programmed and saved to the V1 you will not need your phone unless you want to use it as a display.

I ended up ordering the 360. Sneaked a good deal on it. V1 is going back. I do agree it is a great detector, especially for hwy driving. But in the city, not so much due to false alarms. If I need to spend more money for a bluetooth module and add a dedicated BT device for the ease of it,the price already comes close to the Escort 360 which in itself is a decent unit. I'd rather have a unit with everything already in there so escort seems the only choice. Just a personal choice.

I am in the mkt now for a replacement detector. How has the 360 done with BSM? What I read seems to indicate that no one really has BSM filtering licked. But some are better than others. Tired of detecting Buicks!!!!

I went with Bel STI R plus with ALP laser jammer and it is shockingly quiet. I thought with the higher sensitivity that it was going to be a nightmare and it is 10x more quiet than my 8500 with gps. Highly recommended.

I've heard the same, really curious to see how it compares. I gave my wife that and a Max 360 as options for stocking stuffers.

360 has been a huge improvement for me. Stays quiet almost all the time. It doesn't go off on any GMC group cars at all. Occasionally it beeps for K band of Acuras but locks them out in a short time. I tried Valentine V1 but it needs the bluetooth module to lock locations, frequencies etc. It just keeps going off at all door openers, fixed speed detectors, traffic monitors . And tbh I didn't really wanna do all that since we travel often and I carry the detector with me. Sent the V1 back and got the 360.

I also have a 360 and I'm happy with it.

So I narrowed down my search to Net Radar, Radenso and Max 360 just based on internet and forum searches. They seem to have similar performance and similar pricing too. But what I have not been able to find art any controlled tests for BSM filtering. Anyone found any tests of BSM filtering? The last thing I want is to spend hundreds and continue to detect Buicks.

google radar roy. He tested several for range, filtering and so forth. BTW, if you can find BEL STI R plus around you should consider that. It has all the smart GPS filtering the 360 does with vastly superior range. It is not even close. Also, the ALP laser jammer setup integrates with the BEL. I think it also does with net radar...not shure about radenso. I looked at those two when I went with the BEL last month but the GPS and crazy simplicity made it a smart pick for me. YMMV

    I've read Escort's website code: MAX25 for 25% off until 12/19. YMMV.

I have the Beltroncs STI R non hard wired version it's a very good detector for sure but the radenso units are putting to shame the STI's, V1's, M3's etc etc. I would already have one but I need a stealth model but even the non stealth model is only detectable at about 10ft with the HD+.
