    $140k, what would you buy?

I know it's a bit dangerous for me since some of the people whom I know tell me that I have a "car addiction". I tell them it's better than having addictions such as drugs, porn, gambling, alcohol, etc. and I tell them to STFU!
I was looking at the new Porsche 4S. Uhmm....just looking and not touching. Ever since owning my S6, I don't think I'll ever buy a RWD sports car/sedan if I can help it. Anyways, this new Porsche 4S looks like a sweet ride. I like the wider rear end, extra hp, and of course the all whees drive. The only drawback is the new 3.0 engine. The turbos on these engines seem to put out but the exhaust note can be lacking. The sports exhaust option is supposed to enhance the sound but how much can a 3.0 put out? Spend another $30K-ish and get a 3.8 turbo? Where does it stop?!
Anyways, if ya'll had $140k to spend on a "sportycar", what would you get?

good question, don't even know what to answer to that lol.. maybe an used R8. 911 turbo. The GTR is nice but it lack the luxury of these 2 other cars or the S6 you are used to it. I would say the same for the new corvette.

I havent done extensive track driving or daily commute, but as a detailer, i get to details/drive around (some owner let me go for a drive etc.) and this is my experience with them. Always loved the GTR, but after owning the S4, it sure miss some refinement to it.
S4 B8.5 no track, just enjoying spirited driving.

6 speed DBS volante. Not the fastest, but I don't have time to get back to the track any time soon and it is the perfect combination of looks and performance. On top of that, I reckon it's hit the bottom of its depreciation curve. Wife gave me the go ahead, now just need to convince my frugal rear end to do it.

Are you looking for a 2-door only? I consider a new fully-loaded S8 Plus a "sporty car", even though it's an executive sedan. And those are $140K+ fully loaded.

But as far as a 2-door car, I'd personally take a new Corvette Z06 and spend the balance on modifying it. But that's me. I'm an American muscle V8 guy. And that thing is an absolute beast. But honestly, it would be difficult spending that much on a Chevy (or any American car).

I'm pretty sure the next car I buy will be a 2 door full on sports car before my back and neck get any worse. It may be a year or two until i buy this toy but it's always fun to look and test drive. The last time I told myself I'd wait, I had a new car in 2 days. I think I'll be good this time and take my time and reflect. Oh God, help me!

That's some serious power! If it had 2 doors, smaller, and didn't have a hunchback hatch, I would. I'm not a "7" guy. lol

Audi mission viejo has brand new 2015 R8 selling for 140k (210k msrp), I think that is a steal.
They were selling for 160k couple weeks ago, dropped another 20k, I think they are desperate to get rid of it.

Yeah, I saw that. If I remember correctly, this one is not the V10+.
On a different note, I'm seeing quite a bit of 2014 and even 2015 slightly used 911 Turbo S models going for $140K-ish. 0-60 in 2.7 is ludicrous! Depreciation is pretty dang harsh.

For that money a well loaded but used gen 1 R8 V10+ but then personally I'd stretch my budget as much as I could for a McLaren 650s or the newer 570s. You'll probably need a year for used 570's to appear.

Good problem to have, wouldn't worry about RWD vs. AWD when it's a McLaren, the traction and handling is sublime and it just hunkers down and goes

Tough call. Will it be your daily driver? I just came from a Gen 1 R8 V10 that was tuned well beyond a V10 Plus. While I loved the car, it lacked the refinement and tech for me to have it as a semi daily driver. They new gen fixed that problem but you are looking at $185K or more for a used V10 Plus. The R8 definitely stands out (at least in Utah) which is both a good thing and a bad thing as I don't want a ton of attention in a daily or semi daily driver.

The Turbo S is insanely fast but many argue it's the least engaging 911. For a two door daily or semi-daily driver in the $120ish range I would be looking for a 2016 911 4 GTS with the Aerokit. In my opinion that's a perfect, engaging driver's car that has all the tech and comfort without drawing gobs of unwanted attention. Plus plenty of warranty. Also, if you wait a bit they will be releasing the 991.2 GTS and you could spec a brand new one for around that price.

If it were Porsche, Cayman GT4 makes all 911's pale into insignificance, even the GT3 RS and Turbo/S

Uhh not a f*ckin chance against the GT3RS. Turbo/S on a track? Yes.

GT3 and Cayman GT4 are both insane cars, albeit a bit track focused for a daily driver for some. However, both could be daily driven no problem. Only reason I didn't mention a GT3 to the OP was because he said he was pretty set on AWD.

GT3RS is a great car on a track, but as a daily not that great unless you are on billiard table smooth roads. Cayman GT4 is a better compromise between road and track, better dynamics

What I have is probably mid-life crisis or my wife likes to call it, "MANopause". Whatever...I just like cars as most, if not, all of us can appreciate. My old man had over 15 cars at one time when I was growing up. None of them were exotic or expensive cars. He was a gear-head; loved to tinker with them and drive them. They were mostly good 'ole 'merican big blocks. Like father like son, I guess.
When I was younger, all of my cars were stick shifts. Now that I'm older, I like the fast shifting automatic gear boxes. I want a daily driver sports car that's not too flashy. I don't put a lot of miles on my cars so I'm happy with having just one car for myself and one for my wife these days. I really like the Cayman GT4 but they only come in manual. Besides, I want a little more oomph! I like the Porsche Turbo S but I don't want to spend close to $200K. I can probably pick one up used, 2014 or 2013, for around $140K-ish. I really like the looks of the GTS and will wait to see what the new one has to offer. So many choices, so little time! Fortunately, the S6 with a tune is keeping me very happy as I hunt for a new toy. I'll take my time on this go.

Easy--2 new A7's. My 2014 A7 was $70,000. One for my wife and one for me, since she wants to drive mine instead of her 2013 Lexus ES.

I've decided that I'm going to get my 2 door sports car this time around. I haven't had a true sports car since I got married (20+ years now). Once my second kid starts driving in a year or two, I really don't need a 4 door. I'd like to keep the price at $140K or less. I'm trying to be a good husband also. My wife has her eyes set on a Cayenne S. I like to have a SUV in the garage because we (my kids and I) like to hit the slopes in the winter time. The next SUV will be smaller and more sporty than our GL450, though the MB has been a great family hauler. Cayenne S looks like a nice replacement. Good thing I like shopping for cars. As I've said, I have a year or two to research and shop.

New Jag F Pace is a real stunner inside and out for an SUV. McLaren 570s is not that flashy but the drive is something else with masses of grunt

McLaren 570S is an absolute animal for the money...bet you could find a lightly used one around 140-150k

But if I had $140k to spend on a car, there would be a 991 GT3 in my garage right now.

GT3 wing isn't that ostentatious! Especially compared to the RS wing
Understand the point if we are talking any 2 door sports car. The OP was specific about wanting AWD so that's where 911 GTS 4 comes in. It's a limited market for AWD 2 doors. If RWD is an option for the OP, I would go GT3 for sure in the $140K range.

New: Jaguar F-type R or wait for new 911 GTS
Used: R8 or Aston V12 Vantage

That being said, I chose my Cayman GTS over a number of other more expensive cars. Came to a little under $100k with my list of options. Other than straight line speed capability (still doesn't suck, and once you are moving you can take most roads at just ridiculous speeds), it provided the most incredible driving experience of any car. Of course, that is with the "old" flat-6 normally aspirated motor.
