    Installing a used 5f module

So the recent mmi update (942) did not fix the static/popping sounds coming from the*sound*system in my 2013 A6. Dealer/Audi*is recommending I put in a new 5f*module*@ $3k. I was wondering if I can get a used*module*(4G0-035-74 6-D) do the swap and have the dealer recode. Thoughts? Seems I can get one from a wrecked*Audi*for a lot cheaper but not sure since it was already coded.

    Thanks!

It is a pretty easy swap. http://m.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=4G...sqp=4g0035746d

Do you mind explaining the symptoms in more detail? Is it regardless of source? How loud is it? Thanks!

That I understand. It's the vag recoding that I'm not sure of.

Ahh, missed that! Why would any coding need to change? Anti-theft?

Any audio source would do it. Nav, sat, FM or Bluetooth. Sounded like someone popping bubble wrap. Loud enough that I had to turn the radio off.

It's also the nav unit. So component protection, etc.

You would need to have the dealer remove the anti theft protection. The controller is coded to the VIN of the car it was originally installed in. You cannot recode it with VCDS. Only way to do it is through the dealer. I went through the same process for an older D3 A8. Replaced MMI controller myself. Dealer recoded the anti theft protection. Charged me an Hr of labor.

Dealer confirmed it can be recoded. Grabbed on from a salvage for $2200 less than a new one. See how it goes.

    Thanks again!!

Does your car have one of the various Audi sound systems (B&O/Bose etc)?

You might need to downgrade the firmware on the amp to the original firmware.
