Unitronic TCU Upgrade for DL501® (DSG®) - Now Available!

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!

Unitronic is pleased to present its Performance Software for the DL501® (S-tronic®) DSG®*. Unitronic's Performance Software Upgrade for the Transmission Control Unit (TCU) is flashable via the OBD-2 port of the vehicle
and is calibrated alongside its already released ECU Performance Software to ensure a harmonious operation.
Unitronic Performance Software for the TCU is also UniConnect+ compatible. Learn more about UniConnect+ HERE!

What you may experience with your stock DSG software
As with previous generations and other variants of the DSG, ECU Performance Software and engine hardware upgrades resulted in shortcomings in the stock control logic; gear change setpoints, gear shift speeds, limitations in allowed torque through the gearbox, engine rev limitations, and much more; all stemming from the increase in engine output. In Drive-mode, drivers often experience premature upshifts as a result of the stock calibration being aligned with the factory engine output. In Sport-mode, part throttle acceleration held the gears too long, causing an awkward driving experience. In Drive-mode and/or Sport-mode, shift points are often misaligned with peak engine output, costing drivers with imperfect acceleration. And Manual-mode is not a true “manual” mode, as gear changes still occur at redline and engagement of the kickdown button still result in unwanted downshifts.

Why choosing Unitronic Performance Software for your DSG
Utilizing its extensive knowledge of the TCU from its offerings for previous generations and other variants of the direct-shift gearbox, that developed a strong reputation in the market, Unitronic's Performance Software for the DL501 DSG will deliver a complete night and day driving experience. With two Stages, Stage 1 & 2, Unitronic's Performance Software for the DL501 DSG is precisely re-calibrated to ensure shift points in Drive-mode and Sport-mode are aligned with increased output and powerband of a Unitronic tuned engine to ensure maximum acceleration, deliver lightning fast gear changes to gain valuable time during acceleration, and raises TCU torque limitations to ensure the TCU does not intervene during acceleration. Unitronic's Performance Software for the DL501 DSG will allow drivers to feel more connected to the vehicle and will experience a total transformation in the driving experience.

while not a drastic amount, why the short shift on the b8.5 vs b8 rev limits.

On the 1/4, what is the expected gains on the ET and MPH ?
On normal drives in D, what are the improvements on the trans shift smoothness, clunks, gear selection, etc ?

I haven't done any 1/4 stuff yet, but I can speak to the normal driving portion of your question. When in D mode, the shift points seem a bit more natural. It's in less of a rush to get into 7. I have stage 2+ and it smooths out the power nicely.

so in order to fully make use of the higher shift points on B8.5 DSG you need to have the "Stage 2" TCU? Why not just offer 1 TCU version?

Different versions is nice for people who want to control their shift points. Different prices for different versions and having them staged seems a bit silly to me

at the 39 second mark they cut it off but it looks like maybe 2-5kmph was gained , rpm seems very close , was expecting difference to be more dramatic i guess

was that stock vs stage 2?

The video is not a great example but yes it was stock vs Stage 2.

Stock on a B8 shifts at 7k rpms. (They claim 6900, but whatever) There stage 2 file shifts at 7,200. (Very minor difference)
Stock Launch is around 3.2k RPMs, they increased it to 4k bigger difference here.

Thus, for a B8 the tune does not do very much.

BUT for a B8.5 it makes a big difference.

This is outlined in the picture on the first post.

Mine (B8) shifts around 6800, so B8 would see roughly a 400 rpm gain. But, like you said, not much compared to the b8.5 who will see a much bigger gain.

I know this is going to sound crazy, but my car shifts past 7k with stock DSG 2>3 (always has). I have 2011 S4. It is also a slow shift as when it hits 7000+ it backs off for a few hundred+ mili seconds then shifts. Definitely a slow shift (slower than all other shifts) hard to explain. Looked on this board for similar issue??? Found none. I tried with traction control off and same thing. Could this be because I'm still on stock air intake? Probably not? I need to get VCDS to log... What would I log though?

If I choose Stage 1 will that override and shift @ 6.9k?

For B8 platform are the shifts quicker than stock or only observed on B8.5?

I am Unitronic stage 2+ with sc pulley upgrade, but same issue occurred when stock.

Probably not the right place to ask huh? I need to supply videos of issue.

I've often wondered if the tachometer is able to keep up with the shifting speed of the transmission, or if it overshoots sometimes. I'm on a different tcu but have seen the tachometer go past what is supposed to be the Maximum RPM.

    Excited about this.

Why does the B8.5 need to retain a lower max rpm than the B8? 7000 vs 7200? Is there any change in the manual mode shift points? Is the auto downshift disabled in manual mode?

I’m interested in the reason for them lowering the max rpm from 7200 to 7000 when going from the B8 to the B8.5
I have been trying to get a good answer from them but haven’t gotten a clear answer.
Other companies are around 7200 or 7350 for the B8.5 platform
Anyone know why Unitronic cut it off at 7000?

From our experience, the oil consumption on these engines drastically increases when you rev it past 7000rpm. Feel free to shoot me an email to js[at]getunitronic.com if you have any additional questions or requests.

I am trying to purchase the TCU tune and I am having ZERO luck. No where on Unitronic’s page can you “add this to cart” “buy” or anything if that nature.

Plug in Uniconnect+ and TCU is grayed our... no option to purchase.

Never have I ever had this difficult of a time spending $750 dollars.

    WTF?
