Just Purchased a 2013 S4 Estoril Blue prestige in May, Dealer today shows TD1.

I purchased this used from a local So Cal dealer. It had 29,xxx miles on it and works great. Brought the car in today for some little issues only to see on the paperwork it has the td1 flag.

The good news is the car runs fine, the bad news is the unknown of what they will cover and what they will not cover.

I have a non exclusionary 100k extended warranty on the car, but still wondering if that will be a problem for them. The good news is that the owner had audicare, so that saves me big money!

The questions are...
Is the car still tuned, or what was the reason it was flagged in the first place - how can I find out?
What will they cover, what will they not cover?
The rep says that extended warranty companies do not ask about td1- anyone had any experience with that?

To my knowledge and personal experience, it'll still cover anything and everything not related to the drivetrain. Just got a new rear view camera harness installed. No prob!

Was it certified pre owned? if so it shouldn't be tuned or one would think it shouldn't have been flagged TD1. Also, did they tell u before you bought it that there would be a warranty issue due to the PO?

Ask the dealer when it was flagged. If it was before you bought it you could bring it up.

As for if it is still tuned... You could physically inspect it for a Stage II tune.

You could read boost levels, you could have someone familiar with the power levels drive it.

Buyer beware on my part I know, but the car just does not seem to be "chipped" by my seat of the pants dyno. I called APR and my vin is not in their system. I will call other tuners to see.

I'm willing to bet it's on the stock file - but still has the tune installed though. Call GIAC and REVO also. If you can identify which tune it originally had you may be able to have it switched back to the pump file.

If it's tuned then awesome. If it's not then that sucks LOL - to be TD1 and no tune is a slap in the face. If you can't figure out which tune it had you might as well tune it yourself now that you're already TD1.

I would not worry too much about it. It's part of the risk in buying used unfortunately and not something that is always easily identified by dealerships if they are not looking specifically for that.

Ah ok, you didn't buy it from an Audi dealer. Probably why the PO traded it into the BMW dealer, since they wouldn't care about the tune of TD1 anyway.

I believe so.

I bought my car from an Infiniti dealership with a tune already on it. Had them provide me all the information for the car and contacted AoA myself to make sure it had no flags or anything.

AoA has always been great anytime I contacted them. Previous owner purchased the extended warranty and Audi care+ through 75k miles, I had no issues transferring it.

Contact AoA with the VIN and explain the situation. The car could have been flagged for something as minor as a CAI.

Returning the car to stock BEFORE there are any problems, and bringing it to a dealer, could get the TD1 flag removed. Audi dealers will even re-flash cars TD1'd from ECU tunes and then sell them as CPO'd, so that might be a possibility if your car has an unwanted ECU tune.

I have no idea if the rules have changed recently (they can now detect things like CWs?), but you should make some calls if you want the final year of the OEM warranty. Third-party warranties (e.g. Fidelty) usually include language to void coverage if tuned, but they probably won't send an investigator out unless you blow an engine.

I've probably posted this 100 times by now, contact AoA and see what they have on record for your car or one you are buying. There is a decent chance your car has Audi Care and you just saved yourself some $$$$.

I meant like, at least for me, I bought my car new. And haven't tuned (until CW just now). But I have brought it to the dealer with and exhaust of which they said was fine before I ever modded. wonder if it would just show up on a receipt somewhere or wherever if it ever got flagged. That's why I mean suspicious. If I'm asking , I obviously would have a reason to since no one else ever had my car. Just curious

They might put in a note on file that you contacted them about that car but I HIGHLY doubt it.

Screw the Dealership and get you a good local Audi Mechanic that does warranty work.
Dealership labor is way too high anyway plus with all their shenanigans boycott their ass
and see how well they will do. There are dealerships that are actually tuning cars so its such
a mixed message. My Cars have never been back to dealers after purchase, screw their free
car scratchy car wash and oil changes also.

Touché. I have a shop. Eurotech in NJ. Awesome. But I use the dealer bc I bought Audicare. Still have 2 more services , but that's about all I'd go there for.

It had a GIAC tune. And had an intake and exhaust. They knew the customer and said he was meticulous. GIAC says that it was reflashed before service was done. The car was taken back to stock. Not sure why it is TD1. So I called AOA, they were not very helpful. They could not tell me why it is TD1, or if it is flagged TD1. They said the dealer can give me more insight.

When the speakership calls, I will update the saga. BTW, any thoughts on Walters Audi?

Not sure if you have the ability to do this but it would be interesting to see a screenshot of the engine module in the advanced section of VCDS. See what software version, box code, flashes, etc. Might give some indication on what triggered or didn't trigger the TD1.

The dealership should have the TD1 reason in their records. I recently learned AoA doesn't have easy access to the maintenance records (if at all), but the dealership pulled everything up on my car in a matter of seconds.

Dealer vehicle probably means one of their GIAC distributors, which would have meant discounted or free tuning for the previous owner. That would also explain how they know the vehicle.

i would bring it up with the BMW dealer you bought it at and make them pay or reimburse you for the extended warranty you got.
