Odd characteristic of my A4 B8 3.0TDI. Any suggestions ?

Hi folks,

I've got an automatic, A4 (2012) Sline 3.0 TDI. When parking/maneuvering in a small space I can't get the car to move at a slow, smooth speed. I've not had this problem with any other car - it's not just that I'm a crap driver!

For clarity, what I mean is that without pressing the accelerator the car's minimum speed is too fast for parking. I therefore apply the break pedal slightly. However, there seems to be a tipping point between a little break, which does nothing, and a lot of break which quickly brings the car to a halt (sometimes with a slight period of slowing down before a complete stop). This means I end up moving in small lurches, rather than a small continuous speed.

I've test driven B9 Audis and the current A6 models (admittedly with smaller engines) and none of them have this problem.

Any ideas?!

I think you'll be hard pressed to get an answer over here as the TDI was not available in north america (where the majority of users are from)

Maybe try the A6 forum?

Your issue looks like gearbox related and probably stronic? If so, check b8s4 section and c7, many threads there regarding gearbox issues etc!

Check when was last gearbox oil change.
Check you have latest sw for TCU(with dealer).
Readapt gearbox if you have vcds, if not- dealer

Its not just your car that does this.
Many "new" A6 i drive at work does the same thing and yes, its really annoying.

I think the 3.0 tdi's have the 8 speed tiptronic, not s-tronic.

B8 should be s-tronic, same as c7 150 or 180kw, 8speed tip on c7 230 kw etc...(eu)

Yep you're right. I thought because of the high torque they would use tiptronic.

As for the OP never had such issue like this before, or maybe i'm used to it's characteristic :)

Same thing on my 2.0T s-tronic - I figured it was just due to the torque on tap at low RPM, now I'm wondering if its trans related? But yes, very annoying and makes for some hairy moments when parking!
