    DSG front/central/gear oil change

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
Just wanted to check if anyone has changed the fluid in the other oil cirucit on the DSG transmissions, the front and central diff and transmission gears. If so, what mileage and what oil did you use? Is this a DIYable maintenance item or take it to a shop?

That's for the mechtronic oil circuit, I'm asking about the second dsg oil circuit for the two diffs and gears.

Correct, I don't follow their maintenance plan. I plan on keeping the car for 150k+ miles, so I tend to replace 'lifetime' fluids. While I don't doubt the stock fluid is very good, I also have never seen an oil that is truly lifetime. The question is, does 'lifetime' mean failure around 100k, or failure around 500k.

I come from the BMW world. There are a lot of german environmental regulations that attempt to reduce liquid waste. When these regulations, and the advent of audicare/BMW maintenance packages, went into affect suddenly BMW/AUDI suggested maintenance intervals became much longer. BMW coolant/brake changes intervals doubled even though the fluid didn't change. Diff/manual fluid became lifetime, etc. These things won't effect people buying new and putting 15k mileage on a year because they will probably sell the car well before they hit 100k miles. That is not the case for me, I would like to maintain the car with the goal of seeing 250k.

I had one of local shops done that for me. The fluid you are talking about plus rear sport diff's gear oil, cost about $350 including labor and OEM fluids after tax (rate here is 9.8%). Not bad in my opinion.

That's not bad cost wise. How many miles when you did it?

WOW - that's a hell of deal - or they didn't use the right fluids or change all of them? Most folks have found ~$450 is the lowest price point for the DSG fluid change alone - and add on the Diffs - I would expect $600 at a minimum.

Actually - I would question if they actually did the DSG - as I've yet to see anyone find the required fluid alone for under $250?

But hey if you did actually get all those fluids changed out + labor for $350 - Props to you and the shop who did it - as they certainly didn't make any money!!!

We are not talking about the ATF fluid in the DSG transmission.

It's only gear oil in dsg unit and rear sport diff, not clutch oil.
