    Downpipe noise

Hi everyone, yesterday i got my downpipe installed and so far so good, i deleted the resonator previously on stock exhaust andright now the downpipe is fed into oem exhaust.
    Its billyboat catted downpipe.
Now , for those of you who installed downpipes on this car, is it normal to hear it idle loud standing next to the driver side door?
It seems to me its leaking but when i looked at the clamps the pipes are inserted properly. Before i take it to the shop i wanted to ask your experience with aftermarket downpipes.

    Thanks in advance.

What do you mean by idle loud? Mine isn't that loud at idle, but is this when you do a cold start?

Sorry by loud i meant that the sound you usually hear standing behind the muffler tips is coming when you stand next to the driver/passenger door

My bros '15 GLI which I'm pretty sure is downpiped w/ stock catback makes the exhaust sound by the door as well. I bet you can feel the heat on your ankles from the gases leaking.

    Thank inyaudi
i think that sound is due to the flex pipe which happens to be right by that area. How about seat vibration higher than stock levels during idle. Anyone witnessing that?

I'll test that out for you. I have the means to experience stock vs your exact scenario, literally seconds apart so why not.

I have had that same B&B catted downpipe for over a year now and standing next to the driver or passenger door sounds nothing like standing at the muffler, the rear is substantially more throaty and burbly that it was stock, but only there. Sounds like a leaking or mis-sized connector mating to the stock exhaust.

FWIW, I was one of the first folks to have that downpipe installed on an 8V S3 and B&B's fabrication shop is right up the street from my house. When my tuning shop was installing the DP, the slip-fit mating connector that B&B included did not fit the S3's stock exhaust. My tuning shop said they could stretch it on their machine and hammer it on but were afraid it would leak. B&B ended up driving over to my shop with a new larger connector, and said they updated the connector for all future systems based on that feedback. Might have gotten an old kit that still had the old connector? Totally a guess though, might not be that connector at all.

Glad you were able to get it fixed and easily. Now enjoy, mine still puts a smile on my face every time I stomp on the gas.

Yes, that is considered normal for a car without catalytic converters.
