Fog Lights Always On When Headlights Are On?

I am wondering if there is a way to make the fog lights come on every time the headlights are on. I like to leave my switch in the "auto" position but I also like running with my fog lights on too. I would love it if I could leave the switch in the auto position and have the fog lights come on when the headlights automatically do.

I've done plenty of searching, and all I can come up with is the independent fog light mod that allows you to turn on the fog lights with the city lights.

Has anyone else ever thought or tried this? Thanks in advance!

I thought of it, but I'm not sure if it's something you can do with VAGCOM and or modifying the switch assembly itself. Some reverse engineering needs to be done. A wiring diagram of the switch assembly would be greatly beneficial

Why are you looking to do this? Do you live in a place with constant lack of visibility?

It's almost as if people care about the looks of their car as well as the function, weird right?

I swapped the circuits from the city lights in the headlamp and the fog lights. Fogs on with headlights in auto mode.

Please explain a little further on this. How exactly are you "swapping circuits?"

im pretty sure fog lights act as DRL on my car and are on all the time .. but now I gotta check .. its a PITA actually coz you burn out fog lights more quickly and they are such a pain to replace.

If I'm not wrong, that's an option in some countries, but it can't be VAGCOM it, you could however hook up some wires and diodes to power them from your DRL.

Fog Lights Always On When Headlights Are On?

You can vagcom them to be on with your high beams but that's about it, i don't have automatic lights so I know nothing further on the subject

Edit: actually I think I remembered there is a way to vagcom the fog lights to be on with the DRL's don't exactly know how though because I don't like DRL's they bug the crap outta me

Cut the circuit going to the city light at the headlamp. Took that wire and ran(extended wire) down to the fog lamp. Then cut the fog lamp circuit at the fog lamp and ran that wire up to the city light. Simple swap of the inputs to the fog and city lights. Now fog acts as city light and vice versa. City lights would normally be on in AUTO setting so now fog comes on instead. I didn't see a need for the city light during headlight operation anyway. City light now works the entry/exit light feature which is fine as well. This also gives the ability to have the side markers and fog lights on without headlamps in the first switch position(if you would want to run that way). Hope that helps.

    Bumping an old thread here...

Took a stab at this myself with my wagon. My goal was to modify the switch to allow the knob to be pulled out for fogs even when in the AUTO position. Two problems.

    1. There are two channels in the switch body in which detent pins ride, plus a guide rail that pulls the knob in when you turn it back towards AUTO. Modifying these features would be a challenge, but not impossible.

    2. I tried the switch in the vehicle with the body removed to allow the desired AUTO plus fogs switch position. Unfortunately, this does not work, and the Central Electronics module throws an error.

I tried re-coding the module for "ROW with Bi-Xenon" and "Special Vehicles" but neither helped.
