Angry Valve Cover Gasket for 2007 S6

    Hey guys,

My car is in the shop :(. The left valve cover is allowing oil to leak into the spark plug tubes. I'm trying to find a valve cover gasket without the valve cover (a difference of approx. $350).
The part number is 07L103483F for my car, but I see that 07L103483J is easier to get. Apparently Audi stopped selling the 07L103483F valve cover gasket by itself, but they do sell the 07L103483J by itself. It's confusing because as far as I can tell there is only one version of the valve cover... To me, that means those gaskets should also be the same, except for the part number... In other words, they should both be compatible with that valve cover...
If you look online, many sites like genuineaudiparts.com will say that the 07L103483J is valid for my model, but they specifically told me it isn't "valid for my vin." They're saying I need to get the entire package, valve cover and gasket (07L103483Q, I believe).

Does anyone know if there are any differences between the different numbered gaskets? I can have the (07L103483J) overnighted.

    Thanks,

    Paul

From what i see on my worldpac site there is an inner gasket that appears to be for the spark plug tubes sold separately ...the outer gasket is showing a production date split to 9-25-07 and from 9-25-07...

I think the one I'm referring to includes both inner and outer, #13 (07L103483F) on this picture:

Please correct me if I'm wrong!

    Thanks!

It seems no one can sell me just the gasket. I can't seem to find out what the difference is either. Seems Audi just stopped selling the gasket by itself and now makes you spend $350+ more than need be. Basically, I'm being forced to buy a $40 dollar part for $400+ and end up with a (hopefully) fixed car and a very expensive piece of art to hang on my wall. Wtf!

In my experience, oil leaks from the valve covers are traced back to the valve covers themselves. Audi engineers decided to manufacture the valve covers from plastic which will have a tendency to warp over repeated heat/cool cycles. It took 3 gasket replacements in my 3.0t before they replaced the valve covers which fixed the issue.
Audi may just be eliminating both possible issues by only selling g the complete setup.

Hey I just got my car back for the same Oil in the Spark Plug Holes causing misfire job. the dealership had issues trying to get the parts as well, they said the gasket was very brittle. I'll ask my service guy to send me the details to see if I can get part numbers for you. Mine cost a bunch more cause they had to replace oil soaked plugs and coils, over 2k when all said and done.

I did mine about 5 months ago, and I have the older valve cover and used the newer design gasket.
You should just get the newer gasket. You don't technically need the newer valve cover unless you feel there might be something wrong with the old valve cover. There is a subtle difference between the two designs, which is why they are supposedly not compatible. There is one additional small channel down by the crankcase vent hose. A number of us have bought the newer gasket and simply removed the additional piece from the gasket so that it works with the older valve cover. Just take a razor blade to the gasket. The area that needs to be removed will be obvious when you lay the old removed gasket next to the new one. If you want to see pictures of this, jump over to AR. We just had a thread going for this.

im leaking on my valve cover too im thinking of just changing the gasket and see if that will fix it first before i actually have to change the cover itself.
