    Random Poor Radio Reception

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
A few times a week I will either get static on all stations or the feed will cut in out and every few seconds. Other times it's completely fine. Sometimes I'll be getting no reception at all, stop for a coffee, come back to my car and everything's fine again. Any ideas how to trouble shoot this aside from looking for a replacement headunit? Only thing I've done so far is take the headunit out and make sure the connections were tight in the back.

Same problem here, just that my radio feed is weak on all stations. I can't get a stable signal on any station and I also checked the connections in the back. Probably a faulty player (it's quite old), problems with the antenna or it's cable. You could check with another player first. I'm gonna do that.

I'm having the same problem but with my aftermarket radio. Maybe we need a antenna amplifier

Interesting, had a B6 before and it had terrible reception, including using a FM transmitter for my phone and same transmitter on my B7 works awesome... I think that for some reason the performance degrades over time.

I also had pretty crap reception on my stock and after market radio. I have pandora built into the aftermarket unit so I never used the actual radio but if you do use it the above mod maybe a good idea. I have read before that its helped others.

I have a stock symphony II radio and I recently starting having the same problem but only when i turn my headlights on. If i have the radio on and lights either off or just parking lights on, it works fine. As soon as I turn my headlights on it gets all staticy. Any idea why? I used to have halogen headlights and never had that problem, i just recently retrofitted them with projectors and now im having this problem.

The reception issues in my 06 A4 were solved by changing the stock antenna booster. I actually had fault codes for it when I scanned the radio with vcds. Ended up buying a used one off ebay as a new one was so expensive.

You have a grounding issue somewhere or other electrical interference that was caused when you did the retrofit (since that's when it started)

I'm changing the head unit in a few weeks and i'll be sure to put a proper ground so hopefully that fixes it. Thank you!
