    JHM Experts, need your advice!

So once again I'm contemplating headers for my car. The hesitation has always been on how much of a difference there really is.

My S4 has the following JHM go fast parts

    Intake Manifold
    Piggy pipes
    Tune

Has other stuff of course, but let's keep it simple with that.

How much of a difference will I really experience going from said setup to swapping piggies for headers?

I suppose if we were to quantify it, what kind of 1/4 mile, 0-60, etc difference would one experience?

    Appreciate any input.

It will probably be close to as much difference as your car now vs when it's at sea level. The down low power is much more instant, that's the biggest thing you notice. And of course not sounds much meaner and has a throatier grumble.

And I hope you added more coolant after that picture was taken.....

Your cars always been one of my favorites!!!! So headers will make it that much sweeter!!! Have you done the crank pulley and flywheel upgrades ? LW rear rotors ...? Small mods but it all helps. I haven't been on the dyno again since I upgraded to headers and 2.5 catback but its a nice difference in power. Car just runs smoother and rev's easier and sounds meaner. The butt dyno would say the performance difference is 20-30whp. If you look at the old 1/4 mile videos jhm put out with the v1 headers they went from a 13 second with piggies to a 12.7 with the addition of headers. If your cars due for the timing service then go for it! Ceramic coating them helps as well! Forgot to mention if you decide to go catless and like having your windows down the smell is burtual. I gave a good review of my thoughts about the headers in my build thread. Hope that helps

The headers are incredible, but ill be honest, unless you have the funds or are already pulling the engine for something else, i would just buy a real nice set of downpipes. I love my headers but they are pricey.

I thought they hit 12.7 with the ported intake manifold & without headers?

The JHM 12.7 run was with the intake manifold and V1 headers along with all the other NA mods.

considering he is running piggies, he would probably see some hp gains, but not any more then dps and full exhaust

Corey's car sounds amazing and pulls strong but again. Price vs gains - i wouldnt do it. If youre thinking about going blower/turbo way then yes but other than that my opinion is you can spend 2500$ better :) but thats just my opinion.

Considering the resale value has gone down considerably with the platform with its achilles heal..... timing service and shitty valve seals. Its opened the doors for people who can't afford to maintain the car are buying them and not giving them the proper love and TLC it requires to keep it going. If your prepared to invest 7-10k in parts for a DYI or closer to 14k if a shop does the work to give the engine an overhaul with timing, adjusters, valve service, and all the while your their items...... the price of headers negligible. If your planning on pulling your engine just for the headers then its a ton of work for the gains. My car is a weekend warrior in the summer. If it was a daily driver I wouldn't of invested the time and money for the marginal gains. By no means is the V8 S4 a fast car..... its quick, but a bolt-on B8 S4 or even a S3 would be able to keep up with and even pull on a stage one SC V8 car. In my opinion the newer platforms aren't as fun to drive. If you have a clean well cared for example of a goodwood avant, which from photo's it looks like you do.... I wouldn't hesitate in adding headers to make it even more fun to drive. It took me 4 exhaust setups before I got to my current configuration which is for sure my favorite. But its easy to go back and forth with the Price VS. Gains question. In the near future I'll be going full retard with the addition of the stage one SC but even that is hard to pull the trigger on.... given the love hate relationship we all have with the 4.2.

This is an informative thread. I did catted downpipes, all the while wondering if I made the right choice relative to waiting for TC work and doing headers then.
