Best tune recommendation for an F21 Car

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Yes, I searched.

It's what I would consider a fully built stage 3 car-
    F21s
    SSAC 3in catted downpipes
3in straight exhaust with a small 6in Vibrant race muffler
Bosch 550cc injectors / custom cnced spacers so the injectors would seat properly.
    Bosch 044 fuel pump
    ER intercoolers
    Fx400 and flywheel
MBC set up in parallel with the N75
    2.8 heads
    Forge Diverter Valves
85mm MAF and 034 silicon throttle body boot

My questions is what are other f21 cars running in terms of a tune I am running eurodyne maestro, the issue is under turbo options there is nothing for the f21s so I am using K04s as my input there, not apples to apples. long and short the symptoms are it breaks up into boost then seems to over boost.

-When the car first hit the street it was set at 26 pounds it was breaking up into boost if I laid on it at 3 grand in 3rd fairly often, not good. If i am softer on the throttle and hold it at 3 grand for a bit 2-3 seconds it is much smoother.
-Dialed it down to about 24 psi via the MBC still much of the same breaking up into boost for a few seconds than pulling very hard. Spiking at 24-25 holding boost at 22psi
-Dialed it down to 22 psi symptoms still persisting but not as regularly, spiking at 23-24 holding at 21-22psi
-Dialed it down to 20 psi symptoms are mostly gone but the car feels flat out slow.

Currently the car idles very smoothly at 900rpms and all but two of my boost hoses were replaced in the rebuild.

I haven't been able to take logs but more importantly from a tuning standpoint I wanted to find out what everyone has been using for their f21 car and what they feel has been their "best tune/ most reliable" to get an idea of where I should go from here.

What I am trying to achieve- A fun, reliable, daily driver tune, with a smooth power curve ideally running 20-21 pounds, I don't need the car to make 400hp but 375 would be nice.

I wouldnt even try to run the car in boost on a K04 map. Be careful just in case you are running lean. You do not want your motor to pop.

There are several guys on here that may help you. I dont want to name any names just in case they have a full workload. They will speak up if they want to help you. Consider this a bump to the top so they can see you.

You might try SoloMotorsports. F@m0us uses them for his f21 and he has nothing but good words to say.

It's sounds to me like you are blowing out spark when your boost onset occurs. What are your plugs gapped to? Are you running FSI or stock coils? You should really be logging to see exactly what's happening when it's breaking up? Does your AFR shoot rich or lean?

For my F21s, Doug @ Frankenturbo recommended Dave @ Motoza. I have a BEL so tuning is quite different but I have the same hardware as you. I haven't driven it yet unfortunately.

The "Best tune" is subjective and you'll get a million different answers. Also what was the best in the community may no longer be the best. Things change, people change, some people end up being giant cons, etc. Also this community loves to hop on the bandwagon of whomever the favorite internet tuner of the week is. Some people have good experiences like that, others not so much.

Do some research, see what others say about their cars, and most importantly ask the right questions. See how long they've had their tune for, how the car has behaved with that tune, how many miles have been logged with that tune and with what style of driving, what PSI, what fuel, etc. You get the trend here. Then draw your own conclusion and see whats a feasible option for you.

As far as your car's current set up goes. I believe the WG's are set differently for K04's compared to F21's. K04's crack at ~8psi, I think F21's are higher around ~14psi. Could be wrong though as I have no experience with F21's. Also if your going out there trying to adjust things with no clue what your AFR's actually are, you might want to hold off on the throttle until someone that actually knows what their doing gets their hands on the car.

For my k24 hybrids I'm using blake beadle at etspec. He is very knowledgable and has gone out of his way to help as much as possible. I highly recommend him for any remote tuning. Send me a pm if you would like his contact info.

I appreciate all of the responses, please keep them coming as I will take a look at each option. I'll be sure to update once I determine a tune and my experiences with it.

Thank you, I am dropping by the shop Friday to take some logs and dial down the duty cycle on the N75 for starters. I am currently running a MBC in parallel with the N75

I'm going through something very similar. My newly installed f21s are spiking 25 and holding 22. Car feels like it has a slight hesitation during that half a second spike. We tried doing a couple revisions on tune but our turbos spool so fast it's not that simple.

Also our cars map sensors max out around 22psi. If you go over that you will most likely lean out unless u have a 3bar map and re tuned for it

As soon as I hit 2543 m bar on map sensor during 25psi spike I'm leaning out to 13.0 for .5 second then back to 11.8s.

I'm in the process right now of installing a mbc parallel with the n75 just to clamp out the spike.

Do you have a wideband setup? If not that should be first thing done to see if ur cutting out because ur leaning out. Knowing ur tunes for k04 I put money on this.

As vwjetta stated I'm working with josh at solomotorsports right now on my f21 stage 3 tune.

I've also heard only good things about Corradovolks and he might be able to help with a tune for maestro not sure.

Corradovolks has been a great help from the outset of this build, chiming in on my build thread multiple times, so I greatly appreciate him offering his services.

Solo Motorsports has been mentioned a few times now so they are certainly a candidate at this point.

I added a few things to my initial post regarding the build and also including my goal with the tune, which is probably the most important thing that I had not stated to this point.

So we ran a log I was running really lean outside of the 2% allowable deviation. We smoke tested it and my passenger side intercooler had a pinhole leak. Welding it up Thursday. Also dialed down n75 valve duty cycle ever so slightly car is certainly running better.

Staying out of boost until the intercooler is welded. I also was recommended a really good remote tuner for eurodyne from a local guy here on AZ. Going to reach out to see what his experience is with f21 and go from there.

Also ordering a wideband AFR gauge ASAP.
