Question Potential Installation Issue for custom side skirts. Need advice.

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I bought a set of side skirts (non Enlaes). These are an addition to the OEM skirts and are NOT replacing them.
    See picture here.

The installation requires drilling multiple holes through the body at the bottom of the car for the whole length of the skirts. I went to a VERY reputable shop in Montreal yesterday (maybe THE most reputable) and they were reluctant to install since:
    1) It requires drilling through the body (potential rust).
    2) They say that a big bunch of wires are right there, behind were they would have to drill.

I was wondering how is the Enlaes version is installing? Drilling as well? I cannot find the installation instructions.

I'm pretty sure Enlaes uses just heavy duty 3m tape

You think that would be enough to hold the skirts? Mine are PVC and heavier than carbon fiver :(

I wouldn't drill any holes into the body of my car, but if thats what you want to do go for it.

There would typically be heavy duty tape along the side of the car (length wise) and then mounting to the front and rear inner wheel well where the side skirt would cup around

If the most reputable shop in Montreal is reluctant to perform the installation, I would take their advice. Looking at that picture, I like the clean look of the OEM side blades over the "double bladed" look. But it's your car, so go for the look that makes you happy.

Won' t that flat surface just catch all sorts of road debris, leaves, sticks, small animals, etc? Looks it would be a pain to keep clean.

I wouldn't drill into the car. As an FYI many spoilers, etc. are attached with heavy duty, double-sided 3M tape from the factory

    Thanks guys.

I'm also looking for a confirmation if there is actually a wire harness in that lower section, where I would have to drill??

Yeah, there is. Just pop off a door sill and run your hand under the carpet and you feel various harness parts.

Your best bet is to pull the panels and check for yourself.

I tried to look into it but couldn't find anything conclusive. It did look like the wires didn't go that low.

FWIW, you could use a drill stop, step bit or something similar to control the depth and will likely be fine.

I'm not going to drill into my car to confirm though

    1) 3m adhesive promoter + 3m tape = should be fine !
    2) who is THE MOST reputable shop in montreal, i'm curious
    3) why not contact balogh directly and/or see with other who had it installed already, but another thing to thinks about is if the other who installed the lip drive in salty canadian winter. Good luck getting rust fixed by audi rust warranty after.

Drill the holes in your splitters aligned with the screws of the OEM sideskirts, and then use the same screws/bolts to screw them on.

I don't see why any wiring harness would be located there.

    1) will look into the promoter
    2) VAG Motorsport. I know it may be debatable since I don't know them ALL. I should've mentioned "one of the most reputable"
3)Contacted him and he's confident about the install since other have done it. He thinks 3M wouldn't be enough. He also thinks there's no wires behind. Recommends me to use anti-rust material in the holes I would drill..
