anyone with these on an mag ride s3 experience low speed (parking lot) clunking from the front end? i currently have the new VWR springs installed and get a lot of clunking. install shop confirmed everything is correct, but has reported lots of mag ride customers getting these clunks. just wondering about the ED springs before i buy and try. thanks.

Clunking will be from one of the following:

    - Top nut on the shock is not fully tightened, allowing the shock body to move.
    - Sway bar end link nut is not fully tightened
    - Spring geometry causes the coils to bind

If you have ruled out the first two, I would take a look at the spring itself to see if there are any signs of rubbing (paint missing). The mag ride had a TSB for the rear clunking, but not the front. It should be silent if everything else is in order.

ill check the sways and the top nuts again---im pretty confident in the shop i got the install done at but you never know. ill also take a look at the coils. i suspect compression might be the culprit. other than this annoying clunking, the ride is really nice. firm but compliant and a great drop. it'll be a shame if i have to bail on them because of this. thanks.

I was getting this noise: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lkPxdvmtzxk

Turns out it was the top nut on the front shock. I hit it with the impact gun while still on the car ( just popped the little black cap off of the strut tower ) and haven't had an issue since.

    I love my ED springs...

mine only occurs at parking lot speed when the wheel is turned. its almost like a steering rack issue, but how could that be caused by simply swapping springs?

I had a similar issue to the one your describing, though there's no way for me to know if it's exactly the same as I can't hear the sound your car is making. Mine ended up being the upper strut mount bearing was mangled. If that's your issue ECS makes a "Heavy Duty Front Upper Strut Mount & Bearing Kit" or you could just replace it all with a camber plate kit....which is what I probably should have done.

thanks. thats a good idea. the shop who installed the springs put in new bearings when the did the job, but maybe this setup just needs a more heavy duty one to work. ill check this out

I have the ED springs on my 2016 S3 with my mag ride for 5000 miles. One of the best mod I have put on the car. The drop is perfect, the ride is more comfortable. Actually a lot more comfortable. No noise at all.

so i got the car in and installed the ECS heavy duty strut mount and bearing kit and swapped out the VW racing line springs with a set of ED. i must say, the difference is almost magical. the springs are amazing.drop is much more OEM+ in appearance and the ride is better than new. great product. i can't say enough. i have my car on swapalease bc of a company car, but im really considering keeping it now---its that good. thank you!!!!!

what adjustments did they make on the mag ride? did they give you any grief about the aftermarket springs?

There is a relearning procedure for the dampers that can be performed by the dealer. Some have reported that the ride quality improved after this procedure.
