    Yokohama vs. Michelin

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
I know this is a no brainer but the tire shop said the Yokohama Advan Sport A/S is very similar to the Michelin Pilot Super Sport in terms of performance. The Yokohama is about $60 less per tire.

I am not planning on taking the car to the track or drive it too hard. Anyone has experience with those specific Yokohama?

I have never run Yokohama but everyone here and online reviews will tell you that the Michelin PSS is the best street tire on the market.

A studless snow & ice tire is very similar to a summer performance tire? You might want to find a new tire shop...

Wow, seriously. You really do need to find another shop ASAP. Maybe the shop meant that they are both made of rubber and comes in black?

My mistake. I meant Yokohama Advan Sport A/S.

Yoko is all-season and won't offer the all out performance of the Michelin. I'm kind of in the same boat. My Conti's are getting kind of worn. I get snow here so the Michelins would not work all year round. They would make sense when running summer wheels and switch back to peelers with Yokos for winter, however.

If they really said that I would suggest they produce the findings to support such a claim. I very highly doubt the Yoko A/S would even come close to the PSS in terms of performance.

The Yoko is a great all season but it's not a SS.

I have these yoks - get the SS. Yes, they're cheaper, but there is sacrifice and I can feel it in turns.

I happen to love Yokohama tires. I've used both tires in question, and for normal driving you can't go wrong with either.

There's no way that a Yokohama A/S can match the industry-leading summer performance tire.

Only you know how you drive your car- if you are never pushing the adhesion limits then it probably doesn't matter, and a set of all seasons will probably last quite a bit longer given the higher treadwear rating (440 vs 300 for PSS). For me personally, I do explore the grip limits frequently, so the Super Sports are a no brainer.

I've always gotten upwards of 40k miles out of all my PSS tires (non track use). Up front it's more cash but in the long run, people who spring for the yokohamas, hankooks/similar typically replace their tires twice over that 40k period before I've gone through the PSS. Additionally, those 40k miles are driven on weaker performing tires which should also be a turn off.

Not even in the same class..... PSS is far and above the better SUMMER/PERFORMANCE related tire. If you are worried about rain/snow....now there is a difference.

Love it when tire shops come up with these crazy comparisons just to move their inventory. My bet is they make more money on the Yokes.
