    Specifications Around Brake Rotor Replacement

Hi All - I have my 2012 S4 going in for brake pad replacement this week, and am curious whether or not I will need to replace the rotors as well. Is there a minimum specification of some sort, at which point the rotors need to be replaced? Just want to be able to speak intelligently with the shop when they (undoubtedly) recommend replacing the rotors as well. Thanks!

I've had rotors last for two sets of pads.

Rotors don't have wear sensors like front pads for example so you'd have to keep an eye out yourself.

    You can measure the thickness.

    Warping.

How thick is the minimum specification on our cars? Trying to determine the point at which replacement is necessary. Thanks!

You can have a legit shop turn/resurface rotors for $15 each to remove any pad buildup and the lip that forms around the outer edge as they wear. You should do this when you replace pads to give them a nice clean surface to bed into. Only time you need to replace the rotors are if they're cracked or you have worn/resurfaced them enough that they are getting thin and might crack, which is about 2 sets of street pads with resurfacing.

I have a set of oem front rotors, 90% new oem pads, oem s4 calipers and brake lines for sale for $400 if interested.

I would just replace if it were me.. Never tried the resurfacing as others have mentioned.
