Cayman S or low mile 911 is the correct answer. I had a Cayman S and a E92 M3, and the Cayman was more fun as long as you don't need the back seat. CLA would be an easy last choice.

You can find a low-mileage 997 C2S for under $50k. I recently traded my S4 in on a 991 C2S, so feel free to PM me if you are considering 911s.

Maybe the GT350 then, assuming you're keeping the S4 around. The B8.5 S4 is close enough to the M3's daily driving experience to not justify swapping cars IMO, having had both. The M3 is more raw, and no doubt better at 10/10 around a track, but just cruising around it lacks torque. If you are selling the S4 and want something to be a great DD and fun car the M3 is hard to beat (although good luck getting anywhere in the winter).

Yea I really like the m3's I'd rather have the f80 m3. If I got rid of my s4 I would get the cla45 amg. What else would compare with the s4 in that aspect rear seat and awd for under 50k? Thank you for all the replies gonna make a purchase in the next month or so. Decisions.

Does any M car after the 2006 has cheaper inspection intervals? One of the reason I sold my M3 was because maintenance was getting costly.

If I was in this situation I would look at P-cars. I haven't driven any models above 997s but driven a few 2009+ Caymans and I like them more than the 997s I drove.

Maintenance on the S65 (the V8 in the 2008-2013 M3) is not that bad if nothing breaks. Common fail points are the rod bearings, which can be preventatively beefed up to Bimmerworld or VAC's bearings for ~$2k, and throttle actuators, which are $1k/side if they fail. I had Blackstone analyze my oil on my daily driven S65 with 10+ track days/year, and it had somewhat elevated lead and copper (indicative of premature bearing wear) after 2 years. YMMV.

If keeping the S4, either the Cayman S or GT350. Completely different than the S4 or others you mentioned. Test drive all though.

GT350 would be a good choice if you're keeping the S4. It's a completely different driving experience and incredibly fun, either in a straight line or in the twisties. Tons of aftermarket parts and modding/repairs won't cost an arm and a leg. I have a '13 Boss 302 for comparison.

I'm not typically an American muscle car guy but - if keeping the S4 then I agree to go with an entirely different driving experience in the GT350. Changing it up keeps things fresh.

The e92 m3 is somewhat intriguing w the ess 625 puts down over over 600rwhp but only around 350rwtq nevertheless it has a red line beyond 8k rpm which is pretty bad ass. That said, I'd go gt350 or cayman s.

Depending on what type of car your after the C63Amg S is a very nice Fast luxury car. However if refinement is something your not interested in then I deff recommend the GT350/R, had the chance to hear one in person as my brother in law works for one of the Bay Areas Ford dealership and man did that Car Sound Badass. It also managed to beat the M4 GTS around Laguna not to long ago

I agree on the sound of the GT350.... I got a chance to test drive one, and the sound of the stock exhaust in sport mode (or whatever they call it) is absolutely nuts. I spent most of my time just revving the engine as much as I could as I was driving around (I was a little careful only because the car had 7 miles on it). It honestly made me smile the entire time I was driving it. My S4 with the AWE doesn't come close to comparing. Overall, it was a fun car to drive.

I'm not sure if you could get one for under $50k though. The one I test drove was pretty basic, and it stickered at $58k. I could have gotten it for a little less than that, but they were asking $5k over sticker to the general public (and sold it on eBay for that....).

They just don't know much. The Coyote engine is one of the best small displacement V8's in the world. Strong and one heck of a fine engine. Clutch action is great, manual transmission is fabulous, and.... well it's a great car.

I would also give the GT350 a good look - but it sounds like it might be a tad out of the price range OP is looking at. Didn't just come out in 2016? I suppose you can get a gen II, which I am pretty sure the old chassis was giving he E92 M3 a run around the race track for what it's worth! Add in the bigger supercharged engine...

The CLA45 AMG is terrible. I was excited when it first came out looking at the specs. Then price tag, interior and leaned more towards the S3. Everything I have read when comparing it to the competition including the Golf R, has it falling flat on it's face. The interior is very entry level quality wise, especially for a 'luxury brand'. It has a big engine though give it that. Hopefully in the upcoming face lift they do something more so with the interior. Exterior had me also liking it as an option.

It sounds like an E92 M3 is more the way to go TBH out of your options

nah crazy busy weekend didn't even check my emails.. i was actually thinking B9 RS5 or C63S since its a car my wife "would" drive .. she hates driving my manual but she will if she has to.. if i get a 911 i'm going to want a manual.. or if my job moves near my house i might just not get a car at all

does it have to be those three cars? if so, the 350 flat planed v8 mustang would be my choice. the sound, the manual transmission, the handling. It's ALMOST a bargain at the price for what you get.

Other options I would consider would be a used cayman, or a more used turbo 996 911

Also an old GT-R toes that line of ~$50k which isnice considering the space, plus AWD in MA

Just bought a S4 because my 12 Mustang GT got t-boned, totaled by a kid. Loved that car.

I second the GT350 but it's not really a DD. Sliding over the Recaros will wear them down and you'll wear the clutch down in stop/go traffic. But that engine is insane.

If you can live with the driving visibility, the Camaro SS cannot be beat. Mag ride shocks, new ATS body structure, direct injected LS engine. You really owe it to yourself to try the LS engines by GM. Nothing like a N/A small block V8. And you can still shift for yourself!
