    B7 S4 brake maintenance

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
    Hey everyone.

New to owning the S4 Avant.
It has 92,XXX miles on it.

Just did an oil change and some filter changes. About to tackle the brakes and trying to do some upkeep.

About to buy, Goodrich SS brake lines and the TyrolSport's brake calipers stiffening kit
    Any brake fluid recommendations?
    And
While I'm there. Anything else I should buy to have ready while I'm down there?
Brakes and pads are good for now.

Car is new to me, but I know things wear out and want to have many happy years of driving t around!

    Thoughts, suggestions welcome!

I would do a brake fluid flush and ss line first and see how the pedal feels. Heard mix reviews on the stiffening kit.

the rear caliper bolts are a PITA. clearance is tight back there, so make sure you have suitable tools; i ended up buying an inexpensive hex driver socket and cut it down to fit. spraying some penetrating oil a few hours before will help, too.

    Time to change my brakes!
    Any pro tips?

About to order the Stoptech performance kit. Slotted/drilled rotors and Stoptech street pads. And the stainless brake rotor bolts.

    Any thing else I need?
    Any problems I’m in for?

If you pop the lower bolt out of the rear struts, it makes it way easier to get the rear caliper off

Only necessary if you remove the caliper carrier, which you shouldn't do anyway for this brake job. Removing the slide pin nuts and pins themselves are all you need to pop the caliper piston off and get at the pads.

OP. You may run into seized slide pins in the rear. If you do, the pins themselves are not readily available without actually purchasing an entire new caliper assembly.

Fronts are pretty straight forward. Just remember to use anti squeal brake grease on the pad to caliper contact points for the front and rear pads. Get yourself a nice torque wrench too.

    About to tackle this
    This weekend.
Should I order new hex bolts for the carriers?
I’ve heard they strip pretty easy.

    Anyone have a part #?

You'll be fine if you're careful.
