    Odd clicking or tapping noise from engine bay

    2013 S4 w Roc Euro intake.

    Noise comes from engine bay, it straight sounds like the fuel pump ticking or clicking.

    When idle is can be faintly hear, when on the gas at around 2 rpm it's much more audible. Had it at the dealer for another issue but also had them check it out.

    They stated something like a rubber grommet of sorts that's on the firewall were the steering column comes though was not seated properly. They stated it was causing more engine noise 2 come thru the cabin.

    They adjusted it, now it's not nearly as loud but it's still there. Car has 35k miles on it. I can attempt 2 get a video of the sound.

    Thoughts?

    What brand & weight of oil are you using?

    My throttle body makes a clicking noise at idle, you can only hear it with the hood up though...

    I've always had it but I only notice it when I give my engine a little rev in the garage. Just sounds like the TB opening to me.

    Mine does it at idle but it's very faint, and also with Rev it increases, ur right thou in garage it make it more apparent

    I mean with our injectors there will always be clicking from them.
    2010 S4, DSG, too many random parts. 2004 Mazda RX-8, was highly modified then went back to stock.

    Have you tried looking at different S4's to see if they experience the same noise? Maybe even look at some S4 reviews to see if the engine makes the same ticking noise as yours OR even better post up a video

    I'll post up a video up soon and S4s are a rare breed in my area, I literally only know of 3. But I'm in the process of that.

    Our injectors have a very audible clicking sound that is totally normal. It sounds bad and if you didnt know it was normal may think there is a valve tick or other kind of abnormal knocking, but its just how they are. Many direct injection engines sound similar but the Audi ones seem especially loud.

    most likely injectors or HPFP or both. Both are noisy

    This is good to know. I was on the highway the other day next to one of those concrete dividers. I had my front passenger window down and I punched it and heard some clicking. I was a little nervous, but kind of figured that it was normal since there was nothing else amiss.

    check your intake. my roc euro was loose at the throttle and made a bad ticking.

    Road / drove the car back to back with mine. Definitely can hear the sound which seems to be coming from the driver side and gets louder as RPM's climb. 2500rpm is where it becomes noticable even with a mild tip-in to the throttle.

    At idle the engine sounds as quite as an Audi 3.0 is and matches mine less perhaps a bit more clanky'ish sound from the fuel pump. IMO the sound he's describing seems to be a pully of some sort. When the vehicle blips the throttle upon downshift it's apparant too. Odd.

    No conclusion reached excpet that if the dealer wants to drive mine side by side to hear it they are welcome to.

    Good visit today but not one that left me feeling 100% confident. I agree that the one guy may truly have been losing his hearing but the other guy....he heard it easily.

    LOL at his reaction when drving my car and getting it a bit tail happyas we exited the roundabout. "This car is definitely flashed"

    I like the fact that he seems to really feel confident in the platform and has plenty of experience on them but I don't like how easily he seemed to dismiss the noise on your exhaust mod.

    Agreed, I'll wait 2c what they figure out. I was just thinking, remember how my engine seemed 2 vibrate more than yours at idle? Maybe they don't have a motor mount Torqued down correctly which would be why we only hear the noise at certain rpms.

    I thought I tracked down the cause of the noise I was hearing, I'm so enraged right now, the dealer fucked up so much on the VVT TSB that its astounding some customer hasn't went postal on them bec surely I cant be the only customer w issues.

    Turns out my issue still persists despite several trips to the dealer, audi corp here I come.

    Mine never made this sound (what whiped described at the throttle body) until right after I did the PCV/H2O/T-Stat job.. and then it appeared after a few minutes of idling (while I was checking all was OK and the coolant was bled). It subsequently went away, but then returned. I shut her down, and started her up again to find it re-appear.. But then.. nothing. And now, several days later, I have not noticed it again. Strange.. and personally, I don't think it's normal.

    Hey did you ever figure this out? I have the EXACT thing started after I upgraded my heat exchanger for the merc racing a couple days ago.
