N249 Mechannical Malfunction - Replaced DV / Wastegate Actuator

Guest-only advertisement. Register or Log In now!
So I've been having turbo problems with the car a for a little while. I was hearing a turbine sound when I would let off the gas and not reaching boost. Had a bunch of codes, including N249, boost pressure not reached, and cylinder misfires. Replaced the DV which didn't seem to help and the Wastegate Actuator which fixed the noise and boost leak, but still getting this one fault code. Not sure what this could be since the DV has just been replaced? Is it a solenoid the controls the DV? If so, where is it? What's the part? I always thought N249 is the DV but I don't know anymore.

    008801 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
    P2261 - 008 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent

    Thanks!

Okay so I cleared the codes, drove around again, now that message hasn't (yet) reappeared but I'm getting a new one.

012555 - Low Pressure Fuel regulation
    P310B - 002 - Fuel Pressure Outside Specification - Intermittent

I can't see this having anything to do with the turbo, but I don't know anymore. Seems like everything is failing at once these days.

It doesn't, that could be a few things but depending if you have higher mileage, I would start with fuel filter first (cheapest) then pressure relief valve, then look at the low pressure fuel pump in the tank. Also if you haven't changed your cam follower ever look at that, the hpfp could be worn not providing enough pressure, my mothers car has the exact same code, we changed everything I just said (including hpfp) but not the prv as I didn't know the car had one, and come to find out after wasting 800$ on the big parts, it is the little 60$ one

Ensure you have the fuel pump and related items including gauge coded correctly, I had the same issue and mine was coded for a quattro (CVT car), you may check.

    You referring to me?

The prv's are known as a failure point so that's where I'm going next, I have one on the way so I'm gonna change it

How do I check the coding? In vag-com?

No but if you bring the hose to autozone or anywhere that sells hose you can match it easily

Yeah mate, the out of range codes were a result of my coding being incorrect.

Hmmm what do you mean by the coding for it? What module did you need to change the coding under as there isn't a fuel specific one it is shared by the engine module

bringing this back on topic for a second, the code is back:

    008801 - Boost Pressure Control Valve (N249)
    P2261 - 008 - Mechanical Malfunction - Intermittent

what else could it be if not the DV or Wastegate?

Are we talking about the prv on the hpfp or the prv thats under the intake manifold?

What? The valve that is on the hpfp is a regulator which I guess prv could stand for but if I'm not mistaken it's called a fuel pressure regulator, the prv (pressure relief valve) is the one under the intake manifold

Yes, the one on the HPFP is a Schroeder valve for diagnostics and pressure release, the PRV is on the fuel rail and is a different component.

Where did you get the replacement Waste gate Actuator from? I want to rebuild my ko3 turbo and i think its a good idea to replace it seeing the car has high mileage.

Was it the coding or was it a part? What part if so? Or if coding, what control module sections should I check?

I wouldn’t hold your breath waiting for a reply as that member hasn’t been on the site since June of 2017…
