    Ignition Harness Repair 034/ECS

I thought I'd give some quick insight to both of these since I started with ECS and ended with 034. They both were functional.

There are good & bad with both but more bad with ECS. Get what you pay for since one is $75 & one is $200. I'll give a quick list...

    ECS
    Good:
    - Construction on the harness in the vinyl/hard plastic is great. Seems like it should have better resistance to heat.
    - Wiring order is somewhat easier to follow

    Bad:
    - Terminals are brittle & paper thin. Also you don't get any extra.
    - Terminal weather boots are either too loose for ECU trigger wires or too tight for power/ground
    - Connector is so tight, to disconnect it I had to use screw drivers. Could have something to do with terminals not aligning up once seated in female plug, not sure.
    - Terminal sizes are ALL one size, which is 16-18, either too big or too small.

    034
    Good:
    - Much better terminals and weather boot material. Although you have to put wires through it FIRST then crimp terminals. Weather boot piece has lube on it so it helps when putting in the larger power/ground wires.
    - Much better connectors (female/male), comes apart fine.
    - Harness is well constructed just not sure the mesh on them will protect well against heat.
    - You get 2 extra terminals, which I needed. (Nice touch 034, although more would be nice...or at least an option on the order to order more)

    Bad:
    - Same thing, terminal sizes are 16-18. Somehow word has not gotten around that 2004+ guys have a 20awg ECU trigger wire and 14awg power/ground.

    Hope this helps

I was just working on getting some parts to make my own. When I'm done I'll post links to terminals and stuff...

Looks like 034 uses a Deutsch connector (DT series), or amphenol AT series, they are the same. Various size terminals should be available on electronics suppliers online, maybe 25 cents a pin in small quantity.

I don't recognize the connector ECS is using off hand.

PS you should be able to push an already crimped contact and wire through the DT seal, after the fact. That's how the manual says to do it

I couldn't find the terminals anywhere even Terminal Supply didn't have them. Well the ECS terminals. Didn't check for the 034 ones. What are you using for covering or protection for the harness wires?

Here's the amphenol part numbers, go to eg. mouser.com, I was wrong, they're more like 50c each. Digikey has them cheaper but only seems to carry the 16-18 by amphenol, and i was too lazy to look up the deutsch PN.

    16-18:

    Female:
    18-20:

    16-18:

I was planning on going with PTFE insulated wire on mine, so it shouldn't really matter (it can take 200C all day), but I guess the glass-filled silicon sleeves like used OE on oxygen sensor and some harness stuff would be nice.
