Q5/SQ5 Roll Call

I've seen roll calls in a couple of the other forums and thought it would be cool to try it out in here. I'm guessing there will be a good number of people with kids. (Edit: There are apparently way more dogs and cats than kids lol.) If anyone thinks there should be some other fields added let me know and I'll edit.

Age and status: 39, married, two kids in car seats, and one city dog

Profession: Management consultant specializing in BI and EPM solutions; chemical engineer by education

Name/Avatar: I always get a kick out of seeing riced out cars, but I'm also asian and just can't help myself. My first car was an Integra GS-R that ended up with a JDM front end, obnoxiously loud GReddy exhaust system, CAI, and other assorted crap. I stumbled on the http://riceboypage.com/ and figured it would make for a (mostly) ironic handle.

Why Q5/SQ5 (include a pic of your car!): I loved my B5 S4 despite all its problems, and I felt meh about my IS350 despite its incredible reliability. After we had our first kid, we needed something bigger and decided it was worth taking a chance on Audi again. I would have loved an RS6 Avant but I'm in the states and the SQ5 was the next best thing available.


Next car: If we find a way to keep living in NYC with two kids, then I'll probably have the SQ5 for the next decade since we only drive like 5k miles a year. If we get forced to the suburbs, my wife insists that we need third row seating, so fingers crossed for an SQ7. If I can talk her out of us needing to shuttle people around, then GTR or RS5!

Name/Avatar: My first post-marriage SUV was an '02 Chevy Tahoe. It took me about 12 seconds to run a dual outlet Flowmaster. My wife's first utterance when I came home? "Vroom Vroom."

Why Q5/SQ5 (include a pic of your car!): I'm a working musician (bassist) with three dogs. Who occasionally does the adult thing and carries people. I had two B7 A4 Avants...loved 'em, but they just weren't big enough for the people part. The Q5 and its "sports sedan with a backpack" marketing phrase spoke to me. Putting an "S" in front was inevitable, and while I'm not very smart financially, at least this time I waited to pounce until I found the exact one I wanted.



Next car: Nothing in the plans. I've become a public transport rider for work, so now I'm at about 11k miles/year, mostly for music and dog stuff. Hard to forecast, and of course I own much less of this one than does AudiFS, so it'll be awhile. I would love to get back into a wagon, and maybe even row my own gears, so those will be high on the list in four?....five? years.[/QUOTE]

Why Q5/SQ5?: I moved up from a 2004 S4 that I'd had for over 6 years when it started burning way too much oil and was at 308,000km. A risky daily driver. I couldn't get a new S4 avant and didn't want to go allroad again (had a 2004 2.7T for a couple of years before the S4).



On the way to Grand Rapids last month.

Next car: Unless the S4 or S6 avants make their way here, it will probably be another SQ5. Don't need anything bigger but don't want anything smaller as I transport my single scull to regattas all over the north-east US/Canada. 14,000km in first 5 months of ownership.

Why Q5/SQ5 (include a pic of your car!): The wife and I both wanted a bigger car. We drive up to Vancouver quite a bit and while our 328i drives really well, we wanted more room. Having owned an A4 before, I knew I liked my Audi's. We were looking very seriously at the 2016 X1 and the Q5. To me, the Q5 is the best looking compact SUV outside of the Macan so it was a no brainer when we were offered a great deal.



Next car: Not sure yet. The BMW lease term is coming to a close. We may get the X1 at that time but I am also thinking about the Golf GTI/R. If they ever bring an S4 avant to the US, I may have to look long and hard at that one too.

Name/Avatar: Buggravy. I'm from the South (NC), and bug gravy is what we call the sausage gravy that goes on biscuits. A few months after moving to Los Angeles, a local friend asked me how I liked it. I made a comment about not being able to get any good bug gravy, and they looked at me like my head was on fire. Thereafter I was known as Buggravy, and it stuck with me.

Why Q5/SQ5 (include a pic of your car!): Bought my wife a Q5, which was our first Audi, after a long line of Japanese cars. I was smitten, and my trusty Outback quickly lost a lot of luster. We're relegated to SUVs due to driveway construction, and like to play in the snow, so the SQ5 was a pretty obvious choice, despite being a little redundant with the wife's Q

No good recent pics, and changes are about to come, but here it is a few days after I picked it up.





Next car: I'm less than 3 months into this one, so it's hard to even go there. Right now it feels like I never want anything else, and even when the time comes the concept of the SQ5 fits the bill perfectly, so another SQ5, or potentially an RSQ5 seem very likely.

Name/Avatar: When 2014 saw the release of the new SQ5, one of the reviewers referred to it as the SQive. It stuck. However, on other forums I went with "SQuse Me, registered speed offender."

Why Q5/SQ5?: My last three vehicles were SUV's, which I need to haul all my shit around. I spent over 13 months looking for a new one that wasn't hideous or anemic. I had never considered Audi before seeing a Q5, so I went to check it out. I drove a 3.0T S-Line and told the sales guy "meh, it's alright, but a little too small and pricey for what it is." The SQ5 had just been released and after telling my sales guy that about the Q5, he then said "wanna try one of these?" He was pointing to a new SQ5 they had on the lot. "yeah, okay" I replied to his gesture. During the test drive, we sat pole next to some kompressor Mercedes SUV. When the light turned green, the Merc romped it a bit and the salesman said "take him!" You know how drug pushers work? We went back to the dealership and I special ordered my first Audi.

When a tiny girl in a huge Denali XL ran me into a tree, it was totaled. She must have been on drugs, because she tried to keep going until others stopped her, and then she said it was my fault, never apologizing or even asking if I was okay. . .thus my signature. I really loved my old SQ, ordered without the pano-roof, but needed a replacement. I had a small collection of parts for the old one, so I cross-shopped a Macan, but came right back to the SQ5. I've tried the X5 and F-Pace too, but this is absolutely the best combination of sport & utility. It is still a little small for all my shit, so I simply reduced my shit. . .brilliant!

Profession: Asset Compliance for Lowe's HIW (corporate). I handle violations issued to all retail locations in the US, essentially keeping the Cities out of our pockets. And Supreme Power of course.

Name/Avatar: Previously Mops. I had long hair when young, and one day the pro at the Country club said I have a mop on my head. 22 years later, 95% of the people in my life address me as Mops.

Why Q5/SQ5: Always wanted to do a Q. Sold my beloved A5, and picked up the SQ as an interim while I wait for the S5 Sportback. Seemed like the perfect time to do a Q my way.

Next car: Picking up a '17 Golf R in the next few weeks, and the SQ will likely be replaced with the S5 SB. Possibly the new SQ, but I doubt it. Will probably do one of those for Mopette after the R.

Why Q5/SQ5? (include a pic of your car!): needed a AWD for wife. And after looking at Lexus, Acura, Infiniti, BMW and Audi, decided to go with Audi. Were contemplating between Q7 & Q5. Bought Q5 because it turned up first for a pretty good price.

Why Q5/SQ5? (include a pic of your car!): Had many cars from VW's and Audis really wanted an Avant with power ... S4 Avant would have been nice but not available in canada so the SQ5 did the job, needed a great daily and eventually will buy a toy.






Next car: I ordered my SQ so plan on keeping it for a long time, I'd love to have a side toy but I plan on building my first home and just purchased land so nothing any time soon; new TT-RS or used R8 V10 for next vehicle toy after house built etc. so not for a few years.

Why Q5?: Boss was changing cars and I paid well below market value for it. After the fact learned what a great value this vehicle actually is! Loving the 3.0.

Next car: Wife is principal driver for Q5 and I think we're holding on to it for some time to come. I think next spring/summer I will get myself a S5, 2013+. I drive a Subaru Legavy daily and a BMW 330 cabrio, but I am really enjoying the Q5 so I want to consolidate my 2 cars and get into a S5.

Why Q5/SQ5?: I went B8 A4 --> B8 S4 --> C7 S6 --> to now a SQ5. The SQ5 fits my lifestyle better with hauling stuff around. I was looking for a CPO S4 but when the SQ5 popped up I couldn't beat the price and with the same characteristics of the S4, it was a no brainer. The S6 was a great car, just wasn't for me.



Next Car: Maybe the new S4 but no plans for anything. Possibly the newly redesigned Ford Raptor after one pops up lightly used.

Why Q5/SQ5?: Having had 2 S3's (8P chassis) I needed a more economical car (I am in UK with the 3.0 BiTDi spec SQ5) based on the mileage I do per month. I had saw a Q5 from Japan that had been slammed and really wanted to do my own.

Name/Avatar: ThunderDent. I came up with this handle one drunken night years ago in dental school when I was searching for a new email address. Thunder (Because I went to Marshall University for my BS and MS) and Dent (because I was going to school to become a dentist), even if it was at the in-state rival school.

Why Q5/SQ5? Well, I grew up a Chevy kid, because that's what my Dad was into. And rightly so. I'm super excited to get to restore the '70 Nova he just bought with him and my brother. When I was in high school, we were on school a trip up in the mountains, and I remember getting to ride shotgun in one of the chaperone's brand new (prob '92) A4 5MT, with moon roof, leather, fully loaded ride. He opened it up on the flat top stretch at Canaan Valley and I was in awe. Wanted an Audi ever since then.

When the Q7 came out I really, really liked it. But couldn't afford it. I was over cars as my primary vehicle due to space.

After dental school I found a Q5 that I loved in Ibis White. I liked the body kit on the S-line/3.2's better, but wanted the turbo. And I was still learning all about German cars/Audi for the first time. Of course I ended up modding the shit out of it once I found the message board communities (which have been a huge help to learn (and i still do), and now I can help others learn that are new to the brand. You guys also are horrible influences for my wallet. As I'm sure I am for others. 😁 Once I blew the engine on the Q5, the SQ5 was never a question in my mind.

I started off with a B6 A4 USP, moved up to a B8 A5, and then sold that to get my first brand new car (SQ5). I wanted something with more power, but also more room and comfortability with these terrible NY roads. The SQ has proven to be the perfect daily driver for me!



Next car: The only car I can see me upgrading my weekend toy to is an R8, so that'll probably be sitting next to the SQ one day.

Like I said before, I could see myself in an RS6 Avant if it ever came over here, but if not likely SQ5/RSQ5 for a DD will be my future. Business/Family/Building the house come first tho.

Why Q5/SQ5 (include a pic of your car!): I'm a car guy at heart, but where I live they aren't practical. Roads aren't great, etc. To me, the SQ5 is the perfect balance of sport and utility. I can haul people around one minute and make a mid-12 second pass down the strip the next. Plus, there's just enough aftermarket support to keep me entertained. Installing 034 motorsports mount inserts this week. After that, only mod left is x-brace and wheels. :(



Next Car: If the stars align right... RS7. However I do not have any intention of getting rid of the SQ. Or maybe I can convince my wife to get an S6...

Why Q5/SQ5 (include a pic of your car!): This is my third Audi. Have also had 7-8 VW's. Work from home and so couldnt bring myself to spend 50-60K on a nice car... however really wanted to have a nice ride. Started poking around, and always loved the idea of a nicely built Q, and thought a 2.0T would fit those needs. Loving every minute of it. Still miss my second Audi though, custom ordered B6 Avant in Avus Silver.




Next Car: No real desire for anything else, but a step up to a SQ in the future would be awesome for sure!

Slander is usually in the 250K range and to build with the right people and if you have good network the average is $175 per sqft.

So this is going to tie me up cash wise.

So the best option is to drive 60kms north out the city buy an acre of land and build which is what I did. I'd like to build something 3500sqft with 3-4 car garage !

Slander is usually in the 250K range and to build with the right people and if you have good network the average is $175 per sqft.

So this is going to tie me up cash wise.

Why Q5/SQ5 : I used to have a 2000 Audi A6 2.7t 6 speed. Drove that car for 8 years and 120,xxx miles. Best car I have ever owned. I have 3 cars in the last 8 years looking for the Audi experience. Finally said screw it and got the SQ5. S3 was too small. S4 was to meh. Q7 too big. The SQ5 was the correct size and power for my needs.

She must have been on drugs, because she tried to keep going until others stopped her, and then she said it was my fault, never apologizing or even asking if I was okay. . .thus my signature. I really loved my old SQ, ordered without the pano-roof, but needed a replacement. I had a small collection of parts for the old one, so I cross-shopped a Macan, but came right back to the SQ5. I've tried the X5 and F-Pace too, but this is absolutely the best combination of sport & utility. It is still a little small for all my shit, so I simply reduced my shit. . .brilliant!

Why Q5/SQ5?: So I was looking to purchase a vehicle to replace my then S4. I was in a market for something and didn't know what. I hadn't heard of the SQ5 as they were relatively unknown (Feb 2015). I went to the Audi Dealership in Plano, TX. They had this car at the Porsche showroom next door. Fell in love with the Misano Red. Didn't think any one would have it. I haven't seen another one in the same color. Anyways drive it when I can, not as much. I am on the road a lot (fly to different cities for work). But I love this car. Yeah it's prone to speeding tickets where I live. Not a lot of Audis out here and not a lot of red SQ5s.

Jeff - Volcano is awesome. Misano is really nice, but I think Volcano fits the Q better.

Mops: You are right it is Volcano not Misano. I had to go up and check the window sticker and the touch up paint tube from Audi. Good eyes.
