Long story short the bearings are shot in the a/c compressor and the pulley has a ton of play so the belt came off and got all tore up

Can I get a shorter belt and just skip the a/c or would I have to skip the fan clutch as well and if I do is that ok for a little while until I can get to replacing the a/c compressor?

    many thanks in advance

I don't see why you wouldn't be able to skip the a/c. However, more importantly, why not find a known good/used compressor and just replace it?

I don't want to skip the a/c, but I'm in the middle of installing bigger turbos on my Allroad so I have to use the A6 as a daily and need it up and running asap until I get some time to swap in a good a/c compressor.

Will the belt clear the a/c going from the fan pulley to the crank pulley and which size belt do I go with?

FYI in case anyone else ever needs to do it I got a belt from Autozone part #690K6 (6PK1755) for $14.99 and I only skipped the A/C compressor and it fit perfectly.

I plan on getting a new or used unit soon I just have to finish up my other cars 1st.
